Alzheimer Groupe Inc (AGI) is inviting those who are passionate about working with people living with dementia and their families to join our team this summer through the Canada Summer Jobs Program. The successful candidate will co-lead programming for people living with dementia as well as design and evaluate recreational programs adapted to individual or group needs. They will work in AGI’s Activity Centre and report directly to the Team Leader.

Job Type

  • In-Office, Full-time, 35 hours/week, 8 weeks of employment with a tentative start date of June 10th, 2024.
  • Hourly rate: $22.00
  • Monday through Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Friday 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Answer help calls and take intake information for AGI clients
  • Refer families to appropriate internal and external resources.
  • Assist with the planning and facilitating of support groups for caregivers
  • Create resources for AGI counsellors and clients
  • Assist in the Activity Centre on an as-needed basis
  • Fulfill any administrative duties related to their position, for instance maintaining
    client files, completing statistics, writing reports, participating in meetings, etc.
  • Other duties as assigned

Essential Qualifications

  • Studying for or holding a B.A. in Social Work or Therapeutic Recreation or Creative Arts Therapies or a DEC in Community, Recreation and Leadership Training, or a DEC in Special Care Counselling or from a closely related field.
  • Fluency in French and English is a necessity
  • Knowledge of or interest in Alzheimer disease and other dementias and the impact on people living with dementia, caregivers and families
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to integrate and collaborate well with other professionals
  • Strong ethical standards and a respect for client confidentiality
  • Ability to demonstrate empathy, flexibility and leadership
  • Experience working in a similar environment

Eligibility through the Canada Summer Jobs Program

To be eligible for this position, youth must:

  • be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period
  • be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment, and
  • have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
