Primary Function of Organizational Unit The mission of the Office of Student Transitions (OST) is to provide a coordinated, comprehensive approach to enhancing success for all students; provide services that will enhance the academic efficiency, effectiveness, and independence of our students; and to provide the necessary supports required for improving student satisfaction, academic success, and student retention.
These goals are accomplished through the following functional areas: First Year Experience Programs, programming for Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and special populations such as first-generation students, transfers, and male student success programming.
Job Duties POSITION OVERVIEW:
The primary purpose of the Temporary Coordinator is to provide leadership for programming for special populations including males, first-generation, and class year (sophomore, junior, senior). This position will aid in the holistic development of ECU students by developing, planning, promoting, staffing, and assessing a wide range of developmentally appropriate events and programs for the campus community. The Coordinator will promote student learning objectives in all programs and services.
This position will practice student development theory as it relates to their job responsibilities. The Coordinator will collaborate with departmental, divisional, and campus partners to ensure inclusion of programs that promote academic and co-curricular engagement and highlight campus resources to support students with the transition to college and persistence. The position will oversee event planning, marketing, and outreach of these programs.
This is a professional position with responsibilities having a direct impact on the quality of students’ educational experiences and interaction with their peers, as well as the campus community at large. Additionally, this position requires a knowledge of student development, leadership education, and campus engagement. Problem-solving skills, independent decision-making, and critical thinking skills are necessary.
The Coordinator will share responsibility for the daily operation of the Office of Student Transitions, as well as implementation of the 2022-2023 calendar of events.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
• Provide on-site coordination and supervision during programs and events.
• Utilize evaluation instruments and prepare summative reports for each program.
• Offer office support as needed, including for events such as orientation and commencement.
• Work as part of a team to advance the mission of Student Transitions.
• Other duties as assigned.
Ability/willingness to work some nights/weekends.
Minimum Education/Experience Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience in higher education setting working directly with students.
License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation None
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and the willingness to communicate and work effectively with diverse populations.
Commitment to teamwork, student affairs best practices, and collaboration.
License or Certification Required by the Department
