Job Summary
UBC’s Strategic Plan and Inclusion Action Plan lay out the University’s commitment to actively recruit, support, retain, and advance students from historically, persistently, or systemically marginalized communities. This includes the revision, renewal and replacement of recruitment and admissions processes to actively consider equity issues; reducing financial barriers to studying at UBC, particularly for equity-deserving students; and supporting mentorship, peer support, extracurricular programming and professional development opportunities that help build inclusive communities.
The Pathways to Postsecondary Coordinator, under guidance from the Manager, Community Service Learning, is responsible for developing, fostering, and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders both off and on campus, including faculties, Indigenous Programs and Services, the Equity and Inclusion Office, School District 23, and community organizations serving equity-deserving communities. Through relationship-building, the goal is to better understand the barriers to post-secondary education opportunities for under-represented community members, and develop programs and partnerships to identify and enhance pathways to access post-secondary opportunities.
The Coordinator will be a member of the Community Service Learning (CSL) team and will work alongside student staff and the CSL manager in supporting organizations working to address social justice issues in the community, and provide programming to engage students in the community. The CSL Program is one of several programs in the Student Experience Office (SEO), and the Coordinator is an integral member of the SEO team which offers student leadership, opportunities, and services that strengthen and enrich student learning at UBC. The SEO is committed to understanding UBC students and their experiences, and to working collaboratively with partners to offer services that enhance student learning and engagement.
This position requires a strong understanding of diverse students lived experiences, and commitment to intercultural learning, truth and reconciliation, diversity and inclusion.
Organizational Status
The Coordinator reports to and works under the direction of the Manager, Community Service Learning and works as a member of the Student Experience Office team. This position works closely and cooperatively with other staff, students, and faculty members to ensure that common goals are established and achieved. This position may supervise student employees and/or volunteers.
Work Performed
The Coordinator will work in close consultation with community partners and faculties. In particular, the Coordinator will support partners working with underrepresented populations and strengthen relationships with faculties to open up opportunities for collaboration. This position also works closely and collaboratively with campus partners within the AVP Students portfolio and the greater university.

Consequence of Error/Judgement
This position is expected to exercise judgment, diplomacy and tact in all interactions associated with the function of this position. Decisions have a direct impact on the quality of student’s university experience. Poorly managed relationships across the university have a serious impact on the future partnerships for this program and the Student Experience Office. Inability to plan and carry out programs and activities in a well-organized and professional manner could result in damaged relationships with internal and external stakeholders, lost opportunities, and cost overruns. Lack of cross-cultural sensitivity can also cause serious misunderstanding and/or hardship for students, faculty and staff. Poor management of staff or volunteers may lead to inefficiency, discontentment or grievances.
Supervision Received
Works independently in close consultation with the Manager, Community Service Learning. Works closely and cooperatively with campus and community partners to meet goals and objectives. Responsible for determining day-to-day tasks, timelines, and deadlines based on the prioritization of projects. Exercises initiative, diplomacy, tact, resourcefulness and sound judgment when representing the University. Must employ tact and diplomacy in interactions with prospective and current students, with institutional representatives, as well as with faculty and staff at UBC. Position is subject to annual performance reviews.
Supervision Given
Co-Supervises student staff and volunteers. Responsible for recruitment, selection, supervision, evaluation and termination of student staff and volunteers. Responsible for on-going training and professional development of student leaders.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of one to two years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
