Earl Warren College, founded in 1974, is one of seven undergraduate colleges at the University of California, San Diego. Warren College is home to approximately 5000 undergraduate students who may select any major offered by the university. The colleges are distinguished by their general education curriculum which at Warren encourages both depth and breadth, stresses the relationship between the individual and society. Warren College has created a dynamic, innovative, energetic, and strong team environment and is looking for a Coordinator of Student Activities who values this type of workplace.

The Coordinator of Student Activities (CSA) serves a key role in building community at Warren College and serves as the advisor for many of the student programming organizations supported by the Warren College Student Council, including: Events Board, Commission on Warren Spirit, the Warren Concerts and Festivals Commission. As an advisor, the CSA is responsible for assisting in the development of leadership, community building, transition, and professional development programs to meet diverse needs of Warren College students. This includes providing leadership training, educating students on campus policies, risk management, budgeting, and serving as a liaison between students and College administration, campus-wide resources, services, and departments – facilitating positive relationship building. This position also supports students with the process of developing new organizations at Warren College.

Additionally, the CSA assists with providing direction to the Student Affairs undergraduate interns and student centered committees that support College programs and activities. Together, they coordinate, implement and evaluate new and existing social, cultural, academic, wellness, service and civic engagement programs for Earl Warren College students.

The CSA will assist with the development and implementation of leadership and personal development programs including student organization training, retreats, and support for our college-wide DeWitt Higgs Leadership Symposium. Coordinate and manage Welcome Week activities and events. Support Warren College signature events, including: Winter Warrenland, Warren’s Got Talent, the Warren Live concert, Semi-Formal, Spirit Night, College Bowl, and Multicultural Fest.

Attend staff meetings and training sessions. Consult and participate in other programs as assigned. Assure that college events, programs, and activities are effectively publicized and assessed. Support College events, including Triton Day, Transfer Triton Day, Orientation, Family Weekend, College Night, The Academe Awards for the Principles of Community, and Commencement. Plan and oversee annual college events as required. Serve as an active, contributing member of the Warren College Dean of Student Affairs staff. Manage Earl’s Transfer and Commuter Commons – a multi-use space used for programming and as a student lounge/commuter and transfer center. This position works closely with College staff in the Provost’s Office, Residential Life, Academic Advising, the Warren Writing Program, and Student Affairs and represents Warren College at weekly Council of CSA meetings and Undergraduate College program initiatives.

40 hours per week with flexible schedule: frequent evenings & weekend hours as required by student organizations and programs.

  • Proven ability to develop, implement and evaluate educational, cultural, and social programs that reflect the needs of a diverse student population.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with college students to set goals, prioritizes, plan, budget, implement and evaluate educational, cultural and social programs.

  • Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of developmental needs of college students and co-curricular activities that fulfill the educational mission of the college and the University. Understanding of student development, counseling and leadership theories. Knowledge of needs of special populations. (i.e. Commuter, transfer, Re-entry students).

  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. Proven skill in using computer based applications including spreadsheets, word processing, and electronic mail.

  • Knowledge of University processes and procedures. Knowledge of programming resources and evaluation techniques on campus and in the community.

  • Understanding of University rules and regulations. Skill to interpret UC system-wide and UCSD policies and procedures relating to student organizations.

  • Interpersonal skills. Demonstrated interpersonal communication skills to interact effectively and diplomatically withdiverse student and community populations, both orally and in writing. Ability to effectively facilitate group discussions.

  • Skills in service orientation, active listening, critical thinking. Demonstrated skill in analyzing needs and interests of student populations.

  • Abilities in problem identification, reasoning. Skill to resolve conflicts with the ability to identify, evaluate and mediateproblems, and propose solutions.

  • Ability to multi-task, verbal communication, written communication and organization skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize in a fluid environment with shifting priorities. Ability to develop and implement both short term and long term goals, and coordinate, collaborate and manage large scale projects with multiplestakeholders.

  • Capacity to perform work independently, initiate and coordinate projects and provide work direction to persons completing delegated responsibility.

  • Understanding of leadership development theories with a minimum of two years experience in leadership development.

  • Knowledge of and ability to implement marketing strategies and publicity techniques.
