Your opportunity:

The Master of Social Work, Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency (ITR) field of study emphasizes and focuses on the strong connection between personal, cultural, professional, and academic development to develop self-awareness and personal skills to become effective and competent professionals by studying the history of trauma in family, community, racial, and cultural groups.

Reporting to and working under the general direction of the Assistant Dean, Student Services and Registrar and working closely with the Assistant Dean, Field Education, the Coordinator, Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency Specialization is responsible for providing a broad range of high-levelresponsibilities related to promoting a positive admissions, program and practicum trauma-informed learning experience for MSW applicants, students and their field instructors in the Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency (ITR) field of study.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on program and/or course matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
  • Analyzing potential practicum opportunities to determine suitability with student academic learning objectives
  • Researching and analyzing potential employers and recommending student practicum opportunities
  • Fostering and maintaining positive relations with stakeholders to support student academic and practicum activities
  • Working with a system that selects and matches students to a practicum rotation
  • Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming
  • Planning and overseeing the implementation of an evaluation framework for programs and initiatives

Essential Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, Master’s of Social Work (MSW) preferred or acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum five years’ experience administering student programs in a post-secondary setting: preferably experience with practicums and/or in an academic/student services setting within the healing, health and/or social service field.
  • Demonstrated experience working in/collaborating with national Indigenous agencies, indigenous communities and/or agencies and communities involved with trauma-affected populations across Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience working directly in support of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate and build relationships with partners and work cohesively as part of a team.
  • Must have an understanding of the social services field; social work education, preferably related to the Indigenous Trauma and Resiliency (ITR) field and issues facing social work students.
  • Experience conceptualizing special events and/or functions including determining logistics and activities for events and/or programming.
  • Broad knowledge of labour market trends.
  • Proven ability to coordinate a variety of projects, deadlines and schedules simultaneously, and ability to independently prioritize own work flow.
  • Experience responding to escalated student complaints using informal negotiation skills.
  • Highly developed computer skills including experience with MS Office suite, desktop publishing. digital communication tools; demonstrated expertise with various software programs and databases required.
  • Demonstrated highly developed written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated tact and diplomacy.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: 

USW Pay Band 13 — $84,813. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $108,463. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
