Job Summary
The mission of the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences is to understand and intervene on the social determinants of health and health equity across the life-course. This mission is achieved through research to identify the social and behavioral determinants of health, development and evaluation of interventions and policies leading to the improvement of population health, and the preparation of professionals and researchers who will fill leadership positions in advocacy and public service. The department’s educational mission is to train both scholars and practitioners: scholars whose research will illuminate basic social determinants of health and who will identify and test innovative social policy and service interventions; practitioners who are skilled in designing, implementing, and evaluating health-enhancing interventions in action settings.
Position Description
The primary role of the Program Coordinator is to provide support for the collaborative, technical assistance, and educational activities of the Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Training Grant and the School’s MCH Concentration. This includes providing assistance in managing an ongoing training grant, providing support to students planning on concentrating in MCH, assisting with the provision of technical assistance to state and Local Title V agencies and other programs providing services to mothers and children, and assisting in the planning and execution of events and activities related to this grant.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Research Support and Technical Assistance:
• Assists with the translation of relevant current HSPH research activities to integrate with the programmatic needs of Title V agencies and organizations serving mothers, children, and families and assists in development of new research activities that meet those needs
• Supports (selected) ongoing research and technical assistance projects of importance to the MCH grant such as the maternal mortality prevention project in Mississippi, the homeless families project and/or the children of incarcerated mothers project
• Facilitates communication between agency staff and MCH faculty investigators
• Assists in the development of study materials and data collection protocols for research collaborations with Title V agencies using established software such as REDCap
• Assists in the training and supervision of student research assistants
• Assists with the design and maintenance of study databases and tracking the progress of studies that are conducted in collaboration with Title V agencies
Grant and Finance Support for MCH Training Grant:
• Monitors adherence to requirements of the MCH training grant to assure the appropriate selection of students and compliance with grant policies and procedures
• Coordinates student funding for tuition, stipends, travel and other activities and liaises with relevant HSPH offices
• Drafts sections of required training grant reporting documents
General Administrative Support:
• Serves as the principal contact and source of expertise on the MCH concentration for faculty, administrators, and students
• Develops and oversees student activities related to the training grant and concentration such as seminars, symposia, and interaction with academic and public health agencies
• Coordinates with faculty, outside agencies, and department and School administrators regarding the concentration’s student support services (IT, IRB, Student Aid, Reimbursements, etc.)
• Develops and maintains web-based materials for the MCH training grant and the MCH concentration
• Prepares statistics on program participation and maintains comprehensive information related to the ongoing careers of former trainees for tracking and reporting purposes
• Develops and implements the concentration’s recruitment activities including holding informational events, meeting with potential concentrators, and assisting students in understanding the requirements of the Concentration.
• Monitors student compliance with and certifies completion of concentration requirements
• Other duties as assigned
PLEASE NOTE: This position has a term end date of 2 years from date of hire, with possibility for extension. This is a hybrid position and this position will be based in Boston, MA. Additional detail pertaining to this position will be discussed during the interview process. All remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, California (exempt staff only), Georgia, Illinois, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington).
