If you prove yourself on this position, the employment can be converted into a permanent one by mutual agreement.Ihre AufgabenThe Environment and Climate Research Hub (ECH) is a new crosscutting initiative by the University of Vienna with the mission to create innovative environmental and climate insights at the frontiers and intersections of disciplines and to inform solutions for the pressing environmental problems of today and tomorrow. Addressing the urgent triple crisis of climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution requires input from all fields of research, and partnerships with diverse stakeholders in society. The ECH promotes both blue-sky and impactful research to transcend boundaries of scientific disciplines and supports the emergence of novel solutions. Through excellent research and by supporting and training scientists, building cooperations with societal stakeholders, and informing the public, the ECH enables new societal narratives and actions to shape our common and sustainable future. We are searching for a Hub co-coordinator to join our team. You see the bigger picture – wanting to create impact and make a difference, and you will work on the following tasks.Your future tasks:
- You develop, organize, and are responsible for ECH activities such as research support programs for members, research retreats, international visiting professor programs, and other initiatives strengthening our mission and vision.
- You actively engage with the currently 65 scientific members of the Hub from early career to senior level, getting to know them and their research profiles in order to develop targeted events, interactions and co-creation workshop to support and develop the Hub´s research activities.
- You develop novel formats and activities to achieve the Hub’s overarching goals.
- You analyse national and international initiatives, strategically develop research initiatives integrating different disciplines, and support the co-directors of the Hub in the strategic development of the Hub based on your analysis.
- You build relationships and liaise with international partners and networks.
- You develop success and benchmark matrices to monitor and optimize the performance of the Hub, based on the Hub’s strategy.
- You are responsible for reporting, organizing, and preparing high-level Hub, management and scientific advisory board meetings.
- You will work directly with and report to the co-directors of the Hub (Thilo Hofmann and Sabine Pahl). In your everyday work you will collaborate with the co-coordinators Timo Bühler (operations and capacity building) and Nora Gau (communication and outreach), as well as two student assistants.
Ihr Profil
- You are a dynamic, curious, analytical, task-oriented individual with strong interpersonal skills, who wants to play an important role in the strategic development of a new research structure addressing key challenges in the field of environment and climate.
- You have proven experience of working in large interdisciplinary research teams and centres and in the process of scientific advancement in a university context in an international setting.
- You communicate open with empathy for other team members; you have very strong and proven oral and written communication and networking skills, and you enjoy teamwork.
- You are fluent in English and have good level of German language skills; you are familiar with science communication.
- You can communicate with different audiences, from different general public audiences to university leadership to stakeholders from different sectors and high-level public officials.
- Your track record reflects leadership and management skills in international and multidisciplinary research environments, with good knowledge of the international funding and research landscape in the field of environment and climate.
- In addition to strategic thinking, your work ethic is characterized by a high level of attention to detail, you are a self-starter who can focus and prioritize tasks and consistently deliver high quality results, taking decisions under pressure and making things happen.
- Due to the demanding nature and scientific level of this position, preference will be given to candidates with a Ph.D. degree in the field of research relevant to environment and climate.
