Position Focus:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Diversity Coordinator, participates in the design, development, and implementation of diversity related events and programs for the staff of Yale University. Develops, designs, and delivers university-wide diversity and workplace culture focused training programs for the employees of Yale University. Consults with university department leaders to develop, design, and deliver customized departmental educational initiatives for staff, while analyzing and utilizing the results of the Workplace Survey. Leads diversity related interventions including one-on-one training and coaching, focus groups, departmental education, and awareness presentations, etc. Coordinates diversity forums to identify and address diversity awareness and education for all members of the organization. Provides primary coordination for programs aimed at advancing organizational diversity goals, programs, and projects, including but not limited to supporting external recruitment and outreach, diversity education, mentoring, and advancement of affinity groups. Acts as primary programming liaison with Yale staff affinity groups. Assists with program coordination, design, logistics management, and budget development and adherence. Serves as a key representative during external recruitment initiatives and conferences, as well as support internal recruitment events, as appropriate. Remains abreast to and work closely with other diversity champions across the university to ensure alignment with new and existing programs, initiatives, and objectives. Conducts research on professional and academic organizations to identify diversity best practices for program development. Analyzes data and provides recommendations for future actions. Works with Human Resource Information Systems in the preparation and analysis of data to record effectiveness of institutional efforts to address workforce diversity issues. Conducts communication functions that include updating the affinity group websites, creating, and sending monthly campus wide marketing emails.

Essential Duties

1. In support of the overall mission, plans, directs and oversees programmatic activities. 2. Develops, implements, and maintains operational policies and procedures. 3. Manages program communications; identifies outreach potential, and promotes philanthropic and collaborative support of the program. 4. Works closely with leadership, internal and external colleagues, and community residents to further develop and implement strategic plans. 5. Identifies, solicits, and cultivates community partnerships and collaborations to assist in the development and growth of the program. 6. Tracks all program activities and regularly informs leadership of progress on each initiative. Recommends structural or programmatic adjustments, changes or additions based on full knowledge of missions, goals, and objectives. Develops metrics to identify and measure the success of the program. 7. Assists in identifying and evaluating potential future funding sources and contributes to the submission of grants and contracts supporting the program, including the annual submission and writing of all content areas and budgetary sections of grant applications. 8. Develops and manages the program’s operating budget. 9. Manages the administrative infrastructure of the program. Manages human resources including staffing and hiring, supervision, performance development, counseling and discipline, if warranted. Oversees and manages information systems, facilities, and space needs. 10. May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skill/Ability 1:

Advanced project management skills including demonstrated skills in managing multiple projects and programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills including group facilitation/training skills.

Required Skill/Ability 2:

Knowledge of diversity as a workplace issue. Knowledge of curriculum development; instructions design and delivery; methods, principles, and strategies of adult learning theory.

Required Skill/Ability 3:

Knowledge of training operations, policy, and procedures. Strong ability to gather and analyze data and develop reports.

Required Skill/Ability 4:

Ability to work in a chaotic and fast paced environment. Ability to make sound decisions and execute. Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills. Ability to resolve problems in a quick, efficient, and creative manner.

Required Skill/Ability 5:

Computer skills should include graphs, metrics design, and proficiency with Outlook and Microsoft Office suite of tools.

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

Bachelor’s Degree in Organization Development, Cross Cultural, HR or related field. Experience that includes the advancement of diversity initiatives within higher education.
