Position Title COORDINATOR/ACCESSIBLE EQUIPMENT & TRAINING
Position Summary Responsible for ensuring equal access to educational materials by coordinating and implementing accommodations for students with disabilities especially as they relate to alternate media, notetaking software, screen reading software, and other forms of assistive and adaptable equipment. Troubleshoots problems with adaptive equipment and collaborates with faculty and other campus partners on classroom/lab accessibility issues. Assists students directly through individual and group training.
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in Educational Technology, Special Education, Education, or related field.
One year of computer/technical-related experience.
Excellent critical thinking, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to work comfortably with disabled people and people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain composure during difficult situations and assist individuals while working under pressure and meeting deadlines.
Demonstrated ability to facilitate learning in a one-on-one setting.
Demonstrated ability to present to various audiences.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Experience with various platforms such as Windows, Apple OSX. IO’s, Android, and Microsoft Office.
Familiar with the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008 (ADAAA).
Ability to work evenings/weekends as needed.
Willingness to travel and engage in professional development and training opportunities.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with adaptive software such as Read&Write, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Sonocent, Equatio, JAWS, NVDA.
Experience with lockdown browser software, Accommodate by Symplicity or similar case management software, Microsoft Teams, WebEx, Blackboard or similar LMS system, and online proctoring software.
Active membership in ATHEN (Access Technology Higher Education Network).
Strong time management skills and organizational ability.
Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and support the nuances of new and evolving adaptive and assistive equipment and applications.
Experience administering technology licensing, applications, and services.
Training and/or teaching experience – good instruction skills, both oral and written.
Knowledge of campus and community resources for students.
Ability to excel in a changing environment.
Duties & Responsibilities Provides both individual training and group workshops to disabled students on the use of assistive and adaptable equipment, executive functioning skills, and how to maximize tools used by today’s students.
Meets with students to discuss concerns, options, and resources available to them.
Responsible for issuing software licenses and maintaining user databases.
Provides alternate forms of media as needed based on approved accommodations.
Responsible for inventory and distribution of equipment.
Responsible for documenting interactions with students in case files.
Responsible for researching adaptive and accessible equipment and providing recommendations to provide equal access and support student retention.
Analyzes present systems and procedures to recommend changes or improvements.
Researches, collects and organizes information concerning ADA regulations and mandates as it pertains to adaptive and assistive equipment accommodations.
Develops procedures for the use of and compliance around adaptive and assistive equipment.
Collaborates with partner offices (Office of Information Technology, Curriculum and Instructional Support, Testing Center, etc.) to create solutions to accessibility issues.
Serves as the backup coordinator for SDS student testing within the Certified Testing Center.
Attends professional webinars and conferences.
Represents the office at various student-focused events (MainStage, Get Acquainted Day, Orientation, etc.).
As part of the office team, works collaboratively on potential new initiatives around development, education, and advocacy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
