Position Summary:
Sponsored Projects Administration is dedicated to providing excellent service to the contract and grant community. Sponsored Projects staff act as UCI’s institutional officials in the review and submission of proposals to extramural sponsors for research, training and public service projects. Other institutional responsibilities include: negotiating and accepting awards on behalf of The Regents; drafting, negotiating and executing subcontracts; ensuring institutional compliance with Federal and State regulations, sponsor policy and University policy; representing the campus and The Regents when interacting with sponsors; coordinating pre-award and post-award actions that require either institutional or sponsor prior approval; and resolving problems related to sponsored projects.
Under general supervision, develops and / or oversees research proposals, awards and / or transactions related to contract and grant management and maintains contract and grant records in compliance with institutional and research sponsor policies. Works on proposals of moderate scope such as single investigator NSF proposals where analysis of financial information or reports requires review of a variety of factors (e.g. budgets, salaries, expenses, etc.). Receives assignments on project basis and fully analyzes problems, gathers data and information, and recommends solutions. May be eligible for delegated signature authority. Completes and approves transactions for signature by manager or other authorized institutional official. Provides high quality analytical and administrative support to sponsored projects staff. In coordination with the sponsored projects teams, the subaward team, and other units within Office of Research, the Contract and Grant Analyst is responsible for proposal and award intake and review with an emphasis on timely preliminary review of proposals and awards; preparation and dissemination of internal and external forms; preparation of correspondence; administrative review of regulatory approvals such as COI/IRB/IACUC; audit checks and entity checks of subrecipients; processing proposal denials; and facilitating/follow up on award closeout reports. NOTE: This is primarily a remote position. Infrequently, this position may need, or be required, to work on campus.

Required:
1-3 years of job related experience
Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Ability to input and manage data with a high degree of accuracy. Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus. Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a helpful, effective and informative manner by telephone or in person on a one-to-one basis or within small groups Ability to manage a high volume of transactions. Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques. Demonstrated ability to maintain workflow with changing priorities and frequent interruptions and to organize and prioritize fluctuating workloads. Demonstrated ability to work as a team member within established office substructures, and as a viable team member within the overall office organizational structure. Demonstrated experience in pre-award and post-award grant and cooperative agreement administration related to various extramural sponsors, including but not limited to federal agencies. Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences. Knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.
Preferred:
Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles. Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Working knowledge of University policies and procedures related to research administration (including but not limited to accounting, purchasing, personnel and regulatory compliance). Demonstrated ability to explain and interpret complex policies, regulations, statutes and guidelines to others.
