YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The appointee will join the Paediatric Anaesthesia on call rota, currently comprising 12 Consultants, and the aim is to expand this number to 16. The on call Paediatric Anaesthetist covers emergency surgery for children of all ages, including neonates, but excluding cardiac surgery. The appointee will be asked to deliver some anaesthesia for adults, according to skill set and interests. Although the paediatric Anaesthetists are integrated within the department, the Trust and the Care Group is fully committed to the holistic and multi-disciplinary care of children.

We are concerned for the well-being of our Consultants and attention is paid to work life balance in the detailed construction of job plans.  Although we are a large department overall, we are able to offer a supportive environment for work. There is a culture of collaboration and co-operation across the Department.  We are passionate about patient care and believe that is best achieved by well supported staff.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Full GMC registration.

FRCA or equivalent.

CCT in anaesthesia or equivalent.

Advanced training in paediatric anaesthesia or equivalent. (eg 1 year programme within UK CCT; or 1 year Fellowship or equivalent overseas training); The period of advanced training may or may not include a period in PICU, but logbook evidence of time spent in theatres and case numbers achieved will also be taken into account.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Individuals wishing to apply must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and should be either already on or within 6 months of eligibility to be included on the specialist register of the GMC.

The successful candidate will be employed under the terms and conditions of service for Consultants (England) 2003.
