Computing Support Specialist (IT)

Princeton University invites applications for the Computing Support Specialist. The position supports the Financial Aid and Admission Office and will report to the Undergraduate Admission IT Manager.

 

Computing Support

  • Provide day-to-day customer support, in-person and remote support to diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve software and hardware issues and questions.
  • Perform system administration, maintenance, and support of Microsoft Windows and MacOS in an Active Directory domain.
  • Must react quickly to sudden/unplanned issues and may need to provide temporary solutions until permanent solutions are reached.
  • Ensure staff have proper access to department resources, such as printers, shared network drives and listservs.
  • Set up and maintain secure remote access for remote staff.

 

Reporting & Backup Administration

  • Responsibilities include running daily reports (Action Summary), administration of the school/organization databaset in Slate, application testing, and maintenance of application/prospect data feeds to Slate.
  • Monitor generic email mailboxes and provide support for student inquiries sent to these accounts.
    Maintenance of Slate web portals and queries requiring development in SQL, HTML, CSS, Javascript, and XML.
  • Provide backup support for the administration of websites using Drupal CMS and Acquia.

Inventory

  • Track and maintain equipment inventory and software licenses.
  • Manage equipment replacement lifecycle.
  • Follow university and department guidelines for budgeting, purchasing and setup of software and hardware.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot a variety of desktops (PC and Mac), network hardware (printers and copiers), and install and maintain applications and information access tools.
  • Follow procedures and policies to surplus expired or non-functioning equipment.
  • Keep loaner equipment updated and ready for use.

Media

  • Support and troubleshoot the use of AV technology/media meeting rooms and event locations, onsite, remote and hybrid.
  • Provide AV/Zoom training where needed for faculty and staff.
  • At least 4 – 6 years IT experience
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience with laptops/desktops, scanners, printers, and mobile devices.
  • Proficiency in the following is required: Microsoft Windows, Mac OSx, Word (including mail merges), Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, Zoom, and database management.
  • Ability to work within strict deadlines and demonstrate a strong attention to detail.
  • Must be a team player and have the ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to handle large workloads during admission evaluation season is necessary.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Basic knowledge of CRMs or familiarity with other student information system (SIS) and the willingness to learn Slate.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality and have a high level of integrity.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, twist, bend and work in awkward positions.
