We provide innovative programs and support to enhance the relationship between teaching and learning at the University of North Texas. Libraries Technology and Computer Operations (Lib TACO) provides IT solutions and support for the UNT Libraries. This includes staff workstations and software, student computer lab workstations, printing, esports & gaming, design and maintenance of lab facilities, makerspace initiatives, electronic resources, and things yet to come.

Position Overview This position is working supervisor position that is responsible the organization and coordination of the daily functions of the Spark at Frisco a makerspace and a student technology hub within the library that blends library services with hands-on integration of innovative technology to support academic and hobbyist learning at UNT. The Spark @ Frisco is one of three locations and although this position will be primarily responsible for Frisco they will be a member of the overall supervisory team for the Spark system and may be involved in and rotate between locations. This position maintains the working atmosphere of the service desk and makerspace including customer service, circulation services, equipment and supplies. Knowledge of library functions and duties such as collection maintenance and preservation, website maintenance and basic to advanced troubleshooting of technology and specialized equipment will be expected. Works with Manager and or other IT professional for complex troubleshooting and upgrade recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in related field and one year of related computer experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• This position requires extensive management skills and computer experience.
• Prior experience with specific systems, equipment and software may be specified as needed by department.
• Knowledge of computer software and hardware commonly used in the computer lab including operating systems.
• Ability to operate computer keyboards and to install computer hardware.
• Ability to train and supervise student employees.
• Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to setting priorities and moving several tasks forward simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree plus one year experience supervising in a technology based training environment, computer lab, makerspace, FabLab, or technology gym.

Job Duties

o Hires and provides ongoing training and supervision to SPARK student assistants with regards to all aspects of the SPARK service desk and assist in the supervision of makerspace specialty equipment, basic equipment, software, instruction, tours, service and procedures
o Provides instruction sessions, workshops, hands on making, tinkering, and development of high level projects, programs, and makerspace enrichment endeavors.
o Assist in the coordination for makerspace service, including organizing work schedules for spark student staff to ensure proper desk (virtual and physical), event and workshop coverage during hours of operation, and maintain accurate records to report to manager of all transactions as well
as promoting the services available in the makerspace to increase awareness and help grow the space in response to clientele needs.
o Assist in the coordination of circulation services including loan system support, responding to inquiries on procedure, machine operations, maintenance of equipment and services. Maintain SPARK supplies inventory for equipment, events, and projects.
o Front line support for equipment. Perform basic troubleshooting, in coordination with the Spark technical support staff. Assesses damages, attempts to track origins of damages, reports conditions to supervisor and the appropriate technical support personnel.
o Assists in the safety coordination for the spark locations, reviewing and maintaining, PPE, first aid, and safety protocols to reduce risk and provide training and guidance for the team.
