Position purpose: 
A key member of the Human Resources team ensuring the
compensation plans are competitive, consistent, and compliant and aligned with Belmont
University’s mission, vision, and strategic goals. The individual will be
accountable for the development, implementation, and administration of new and
revised compensation programs, policies, and procedures.

 Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert on compensation strategy and administration for the university.
  • Manages the development, implementation, and administration of compensation programs.
  • Monitors the effectiveness of existing compensation practices and recommends changes that are cost-effective and consistent with compensation trends and University objectives.
  • Serve as a resource to managers and staff in collaboration with HR on all aspects of the compensation process including analysis of and advice on pay decisions, policy interpretations, and job evaluations ensuring compensation programs are properly administered.
  • Participates in the creation and implementation of promotion and merit rating programs.
  • Evaluates position descriptions for FLSA exemption status, compensation group, internal equity, and external market position documenting recommendations for new positions or changes to existing roles.
  • Ensures adherence to established policies and makes recommendations for change as appropriate.
  • Prepares spreadsheets, analyzing data and interpreting results and maintaining documentation for audit purposes. Compiles, prepares, and presents compensation data.
  • Oversee wage and salary survey data collection and recommend changes based on analysis.
  • Ensures programs and policies are in compliance with all State and Federal laws and regulations.

    Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

    The ideal candidate will have the following:

    • Deep knowledge of compensation benchmarking, compensation practices and principles
    • Demonstrated ability to keep abreast of regulatory, market and compensation practice changes and trends
    • Experience with salary surveys, benchmarking analysis and job classifications
    • Knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation
    • Outstanding skills in data analysis and data reporting, including graphical reporting
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to influence and build work relationships among a diverse workforce at all levels
    • Strong organizational, time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to interpret policies and procedures to proactively resolve issues or improve processes
    • Excellent analytical, financial and spreadsheet skills
    • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification
    • Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM, etc.)
    • Knowledge and experience with Ellucian Banner and CSOD
    • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills
    Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Management, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field. Prefer a Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Professional HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM, etc.) also desired.
    Required Experience Eight or more years of progressive experience in human resources with three or more years of experience in compensation management.
    Working Conditions & Physical Requirements The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to speak and hear sufficiently to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes. The employee’s vision must be adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc. The position requires good manual dexterity. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bending or standing as necessary.

    The selected candidate will be required to complete a background check satisfactory to the University.
