Position Overview The Community Outreach Coordinator coordinates service delivery, participant recruitment, community outreach efforts, and implements evaluation strategies for the Lapwai-Orofino Upward Bound project. Upward Bound provides services to assist underserved populations in completing secondary schooling, enrolling in, and succeeding in programs of post-secondary education. Major responsibilities include: providing services to target community; providing information on post-secondary and career choice options; providing academic and financial aid assistance to eligible participants wishing to pursue a program of postsecondary education; and documenting and evaluating project services.

Position Responsibilities

Key Accountability Assist in carrying out the Plan of Operation by:
Job Duties
  • Coordinating outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts serving project participants from low-income, first generation and culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Conducting small group workshops and representing TRIOINSPIRE at college, agency, and community fairs.
  • Collaborating with community partners to ensure delivery of services throughout the year including, when required or recommended, immersive programming for extended periods of time.
  • Developing and presenting informational materials that promote and publicize the project for the purposes of maintaining and/or increasing participant enrollment and community awareness of program services (State agencies, schools, non-profits).
Key Accountability Assist with Participant Service Delivery by:
Job Duties
  • Developing and delivering college preparatory programming or complementary programming, including, but not limited to career assessments, post-secondary admissions and financial aid scholarship processes, financial aid and scholarships, assessing individual participant needs and monitoring their progress.
  • Providing one-on-one advising for scholars/participants.
  • Assessing previous tests and/or records, educational needs, capabilities, and desires of participants.
  • Organizing, leading and transporting participants to educational events as needed.
Key Accountability Assist Records and Program Management by:
Job Duties
  • Completing and processing program records and financial claims in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining proficiency with technology such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher and other software relevant to websites, graphics, and document layout.
  • Maintaining records and compiling data of current and past participants for annual reporting to the program sponsors, as well as for continuous program improvement.
  • Adhering to FERPA and HIPAA and protecting the confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.

  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with community leaders, partners, and stakeholders.
  • Working effectively with stakeholders to achieve organizational outcomes.
Key Accountability Engage in Professional Development by:
Job Duties
  • Ordering supplies and educational materials.
  • Providing outreach services in target school and support.
  • Serving on IATP and INSPIRE Committees.

Position Qualifications

Required Experience
  • Working with concepts and factors related to educational opportunity for underserved populations including low-income, and first-generation individuals.
  • Operating computers with the ability to conduct independent research, prepare informational reports, and analyze data using a variety of software programs.
  • Developing and delivering educational content in large group and individual settings (i.e.: in person, distance, digital).
  • Compiling and analyzing data.
  • Maintaining confidentiality while managing highly sensitive documents and information.
  • Working with and maintaining student records.
  • Working with minimal supervision.
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with a preference for education, social sciences, and English degree programs.
Required Licensures, Certifications or other
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet the University’s driving requirements.
  • Requires: working evenings and weekends when necessary, and occasional overnight travel.
Additional Preferred Master’s with a preference for education, social sciences, and English degree programs.
Experience in:

  • Student service delivery; TRIO programs and/or similar programs; in planning and coordinating educational activities; teaching, supervising, or counseling non-traditional, under-represented students.
  • Risk management as it relates to college going processes and procedures.
  • Implementing major program planning and coordination.
  • Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals.
