Job Description

The Office of Community Health, Engagement, and Resiliency (ASU OCHER), based in Tucson, Arizona, in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University invites applications for a Community Health Worker/Evaluation Specialist. ASU OCHER specializes in participatory action research, including prevention, implementation, and translational science to promote health and resilience through culturally-centric, community-driven interventions.

The Community Health Worker/Evaluation Specialist will support direct care management programming, training, research and evaluation activities of ASU OCHER. This position will require a uniquely skilled individual with experience in care management and referrals, knowledge of and/or experience with evaluation and research, and experience in the development of training programs and in training delivery to diverse audiences.

$40,000 – $50,000 per year; DOE

Essential Duties

  • Supports care management projects including direct engagement and recruitment of participants, initial and follow-up assessments, continuum of care supportive services, and service referrals
  • Acts as a linkage for program participants that require additional supportive tools and resources from health-service providers/ and/or community partners
  • Assists in research and evaluation activities of ASU OCHER including providing expertise from the Community Health Worker perspective in all aspects of study designs; including data collection, processing, analysis, and dissemination
  • Supports the development of trainings, tools, and resources for Community Health Workers use in the field to address trauma for children, youth, and families
  • Works closely with and help coordinate activities for the Community Action Board
  • Facilitates the engagement of community members and other partners in the research design of OCHER studies
  • Supports the dissemination of research and evaluation findings and results to a variety of audiences in multiple formats
  • Participates on project teams in special studies
  • Collaborates with external and internal stakeholders; maintains effective relationships.
  • Provides supervision and support to staff, interns, service members and junior scholars as relevant.
  • Supports research and evaluation technical assistance and training for partner organizations.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience as a Community Health Worker or Community Health Representative
  • Evidence of completion of CHW Core Competencies certification
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including minoritized and historically excluded communities.
  • Evidence in being a skilled communicator, solution-focused, motivated team member
  • Bilingual written and oral fluency in English/Spanish
  • Experience and/or training in Participatory Action Research
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community agencies and resources.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of multi-system outreach programs related to health care delivery, clinical education, and health-related services
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating individual client care plans
  • Experience in using personal computers and related software applications, including e-mail
  • Experience in organizing resources and establishing priorities

Working Environment

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, standing, walking.
  • Use office equipment including a desktop computer.
  • Lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to clearly communicate to perform essential duties.
