Communications Specialist, Crown Center

The Crown Center for Middle East Studies seeks a dynamic, skilled, and collaborative communications specialist to join our team. The communications specialist plays a vital role in implementing the Center’s mission to produce and disseminate balanced and dispassionate research on the modern Middle East at the highest academic standards.

The position is part time, up to 20 hours per week, and in-person work is preferred. Remote work will be considered. Familiarity with or experience working in an academic environment is preferred.

Salary range is $35,900 – $38,750.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build on and maintain the Center’s websites.
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of the Center’s social media channels, which currently includes Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • In consultation with Center leadership, develop and implement a social media strategy in line with the Center’s mission and the latest innovations in digital media.
  • Daily creation and posting of content adhering to the Center’s mission and Brandeis’ guidelines on accessibility for all social media platforms.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to build audience engagement and grow followers in coordination with the social media strategy, including the utilization of analytics to better understand content performance and implement future content strategy improvements.
  • Provide research and administrative support for the Center’s podcast
  • Maintain and build relationships with students and campus groups to enhance awareness and build audiences for events.
  • Track the Center’s accomplishments and data on activities, including engagement with Center alumni.
  • Assist in the development of talking points, internal communications, external communications, and other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience; BA/BS preferred.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Canva, and other photo and video editing software.
  • Experience with building websites.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Superior organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously and in a timely manner.
  • Ability to work both as part of a collaborative communications team and independently.
