As the communications specialist, you will work closely with the director of communications, as well as other communicators in the Finance and Administration units and across the institution. Together, we will develop clear, consistent, and compelling messaging for campus and community audiences. You will support transformative initiatives such as our revenue innovations work, the modernization of facilities and administrative processes, and the cultivation of a campus culture that embraces change.
Develops and drafts communication content and assists in executing the communications plan in support of the vice chancellor for finance and administrations strategic priorities. The communications specialist will work closely with the director of communications to tell a consistent and compelling story about the people, places, and processes that keep UW-Madison going.

Responsibilities: Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.

  • 5% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 20% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 5% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 35% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 20% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
  • 10% Work closely with communicators from other Finance and Administration units to ensure more intentional and cohesive communications across the units
  • 5% Implements communications initiatives in collaboration with the director of communications and other communicators in Finance and Administration units

Education:

Required
Bachelor’s Degree
in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, or related field.

Qualifications:

Required:
1. Significant experience (minimum of 5 years) managing and/or directing comprehensive communications plans
2. Exceptional writing and editing skills
3. Basic graphic design skills, including the creation of decks, reports, executive summaries, etc.
4. Web management experience
Preferred:
1. Experience and/or familiarity with working in a decentralized organizational structure
2. Proven understanding of emerging communication technologies and channels
3. Ability to translate complex concepts into succinct and compelling communications
4. Extensive knowledge (or ability to learn quickly) of higher education issues, including relations with board of regents, state and federal governments, alumni, and other important stakeholders
5. Demonstrated creativity, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills

Work Type:

Full Time: 100%
This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $42,600 ANNUAL (12 months)
