Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program) UWM is a doctoral/research intensive university and Wisconsin’s premier public urban institution, offering a comprehensive liberal arts, sciences and professional education at the undergraduate and graduate level to nearly 25,000 students. UWM has earned the highest rating for a research institution from the Carnegie Classification of Institution of Higher Education, often referred to as R1 status. The School of Information Studies (SOIS) offers several educational programs: a Bachelor of Science in Information Science and Technology (BSIST); a Masters of Science in Information Science and Technology (MSIST) degree in partnership with the Department of Computer Science; an ALA-accredited Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS); several coordinated graduate degree programs, including Health Informatics; transcript-designated concentrations within the MLIS Archival Studies, Public Libraries, Information Organization, and Information Technology; post-masters Certificates of Advanced Study in Archives and Records Management and Digital Libraries; and a PhD in Information Studies. The School has a strong research faculty, more than 900 students, and state-of-the-art information technology.
SOIS houses the Center for Information Policy Research, and its faculty organizes three other research groups: the Research Group for Information Retrieval, Knowledge Organization Research Group, and the Social Studies of Information Research Group.

Job Summary Under the general direction of the School of Information Studies (SOIS) Creative Manager and Assistant Dean the incumbent will provide support to the marketing of the School, the degree programs and events. This may include developing digital content, communications and announcements, survey management, and program/event support.
Major duties include:

  • Develop materials to promote and market SOIS – 50%
  • Web Site Maintenance and Updates – 20%
  • Event Management – 20%
  • Canvas (Course website) Support- 10%
Minimum Qualifications
  • One or more years of proven experience in the field(s) of communications and/or marketing executing communications to diverse audiences
  • Associate’s degree
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in successful event planning
  • Experience working with a website content management system
  • Experience with digital communications (web updates, digital display management, and email marketing)
  • Experience using social media in the workplace
