Job Summary The Office of Advancement engages with the university’s constituency – alumni, donors, and friends – to support the strategic priorities and academic mission of the institution. Reporting to the Director, Annual Giving, the Communication Officer, Annual Giving will play an active role in inspiring alumni and friends to invest in Dalhousie’s vision of the future and is responsible for implementing fundraising strategies to grow the Annual Giving program.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic fundraising messages for the Dalhousie Fund, Dalhousie University’s Annual Giving program.
  • Develop communications materials and contribute to developing strategy for various segments of the Dalhousie Fund including donor acquisition, retention, upgrading and recognition through a multi-channel approach of direct mail, email and social media.
  • Manage fundraising projects through projectDal, our crowdfunding platform. Work with volunteers, students and faculty staff to set goals and objectives, develop effective communications and provide fundraising advice to ensure the groups success.
  • Consult with Deans and other academic leaders, faculty and staff to ensure communications are compelling and on target with faculty and university priorities.

Note The successful applicant may work in-person on campus, primarily remotely, or perform a hybrid of the two as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements.

Qualifications Undergraduate degree in communications or public relations or related area with approximately three to five years’ experience in communications, fundraising, client relations or a related field, ideally, in a post-secondary environment (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. Exceptional written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Business acumen, maturity and diplomacy in dealing with donors and senior level faculty and administrative personnel is required. Must thrive on working in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment.
