Job Summary The Faculty of Computer Science (FCS) offers degrees tailored to match individual interests in a high-tech discipline at the forefront of innovation. Staff work with faculty members to help build a foundation for student success as students prepare, through academics and research, for a career in one of the world’s hottest growth industries. Reporting to the Director, Engagement & Communications, the Communications & Media Relations Manager will be responsible for the writing and publishing of dynamic and compelling stories that move an audience to engage more deeply with the Faculty of Computer Science’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
  • Researches and writes a variety of communication materials such as feature articles, news releases, newsletter, advertisements, brochures and web content.
  • Manages content development process (stories & copy) for integrated digital fundraising and marketing campaigns and partners with other teams to package it for multiple channels.
  • Identifies opportunities to generate editorial content, disseminate faculty research, and pursues other profile-raising initiatives across a wide range of media.
  • Leads the development of executive-level communications for senior leaders including the Dean, Associate Dean Academic and Associate Dean Research, such as speeches for events, briefing notes, presentations and strategic communications plans.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities for media coverage and manages media inquiries effectively.
Note The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a field such as Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or a related field plus a minimum of five years’ relevant work experience in communications, journalism, story-telling or creative writing with a demonstrated track record of written stories (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Experience in executive communications (briefing notes, public engagement, presentations, speeches).
  • Proven ability to communicate professionally and effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to show good judgement, think strategically, understand and anticipate the needs of the organization and respond appropriately.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to balance multiple projects and priorities within deadlines.
