Description of Work Unit Communications
The Communications Department leads strategic communications and marketing efforts to support the mission of the CSU Health Network. Essential duties include public health and safety communications, health education and prevention campaigns, internal and executive communication efforts, new student and family communications and outreach, service line marketing, digital media (website, social media, etc.), branding, graphic design, events, media relations, and more. The team supports and collaborates with all Health Network departments to meet internal and public communications needs. In addition, the team regularly partners with other units and communicators across the university to elevate the health and well-being of the university community. We strive to center inclusive communication and health equity principles in all of our work. The Communication Department operates under normal business hours of 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday-Friday, year-round, with occasional evening and weekend work required for events, programs and time-sensitive needs.

Position Summary The Communications Coordinator is responsible for the digital presence of the CSU Health Network, including social media and website management. This position assists with the Health Network’s outreach and communications efforts to prospective and incoming students and families during the Admissions process, Ram Orientation and Ram Welcome. This position also performs graphic design, oversees the digital sign program in the CSU Health and Medical Center, manages the strategy and execution of marketing and health campaigns, and supervises student staff. Candidates should be adaptable in a fast-paced work environment, work with attention to detail, and have a demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
The work hours for this position are primarily Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend work required for events and programs.
The Communications Coordinator reports to the CSU Health Network, Associate Director of Communications.
Required Job Qualifications Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, journalism; OR bachelor’s degree in unrelated field with a minimum of two years of experience in the communications/ marketing field

Experience

  • Six months of work experience managing social media strategy for a professional brand/organization
  • Demonstrated skills designing original promotional materials from concept through print using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Photoshop)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple deadline-oriented projects in a changing, dynamic, and demanding environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
Preferred Job Qualifications Experience
  • Experience with website content management (WordPress/other CMS, HTML, CSS)
  • Experience with health communications targeting multiple audiences, including students, parents/families, faculty, staff and campus/community partners
  • Experience creating and deploying marketing and communications for diverse populations
  • Experience with digital sign software (Four Winds Interactive or similar)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

  • Demonstrated experience with basic photography and/or videography
  • Demonstrated experience with video production and editing software, such as Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere
  • Outstanding writing and editing ability for both print and digital platforms

  • Serve as liaison to CSU’s Social Media Team, including pitching ideas and coordinating partnerships for CSU Health Network content to be featured on CSU’s institutional social media channels
  • Schedule and lead regular team meetings for social media content planning
  • Stay current in social media related trends, research and best practices, and adjust strategies/tactics accordingly
  • Track social media analytics to maximize reach and engagement
  • Prepare monthly report of social media performance

  • Manage campaign execution, including media reservations, print orders, deliveries, and payment
  • Assist with additional staffing needs for resource fairs, presentations, events, building tours, and design requests

  • Make updates to existing CSU Health Network communication materials and forms
  • Stay up-to-date with CSU brand standards and new design trends
