Job Summary:
Under the direction of the immediate supervisor, the incumbent may perform some or all of the listed general administration functions. These functions are of low complexity and the incumbent performs them using precise instructions provided by his/her immediate supervisor or other team members.
Description of Duties:
- Convert texts written in English to French including but not limited to the Undergraduate Admissions website, event descriptions and invitations, descriptions for virtual events, social media posts, PowerPoint presentations, etc.
- Ensure translated content conveys the original meaning and tone, is consistent with messaging and branding, respects the original format (font and structure), and delivered on time and as expected.
- Use cross-reference specialized dictionaries and translation tools to verify the quality of the translation.
- Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling, and punctuation accuracy.
- Follow up with internal team members to ensure translation meets their needs.
- May also be called upon to adapt text from French to English or proofread French texts prepared by members of the Recruitment and Communications team.
Qualifying Skills and/or Other Abilities:
- Student currently enrolled in Département des littératures de langues française, de traduction et de création , ideally in Concentration majeure or mineure – Traduction
- Strong writing skills in French and English
- Knowledge of other languages may be an asset
- Current student in good standing at McGill University
- Professional, reliable, and responsible
