Commissary Warehouse Assistant Manager (Dining Services Area Assistant Manager)

JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Dining Services at the University of Connecticut has an opening for an Area Assistant Manager responsible for Commissary Operations. Under the direction of the Area Manager of the Central Production Kitchen, this position is responsible for all aspects of the service functions of the Commissary Warehouse. This includes tracking and ensuring the proper delivery and transportation of Dining Services supplies, equipment, and prepared products.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with Area Manager to develop annual goals and objectives for assigned areas of responsibility; maintains and audits the work-order process as it relates to the repair of vehicles, and equipment by both University and non-university personnel. Maintains appropriate records, including fiscal and personnel records; assists in the ordering of food and supplies and is responsible for the safe and sanitary receiving of such supplies and food. Works with the Area Manager to coordinate special projects in conjunction with the appropriate dining service personnel, DDS purchasing, and outside contractors if necessary; works closely with other managers to ensure good lines of communication are maintained. Meets with area managers at their respective locations on a quarterly basis to review projects firsthand. Ensures timely billing to internal and outside sources; follows through to ensure payments are received and processed. Updates and maintains files for records; oversees FoodPro food ordering system for Commissary Warehouse items and maintains an accurate inventory of Dining Services equipment to ensure compliance with University Inventory Control regulations regarding the tracking and disposition process for items for disposal. Oversees maintaining of cleanliness, organization, and general upkeep of the Commissary both inside the building and the surrounding grounds. Maintains the oversight of maintenance for the fleet of vehicles housed at the commissary and department; oversees the snow removal for the Department providing extra removal with the Department’s pick-up truck and develops procedures for rentals and returns of Commissary equipment. Responsible for twice yearly building inventory; maintains proper inventory records for locations for computerized inventory lists and ensures proper paperwork is completed and copies maintained on file when equipment is transferred from one location to another. Fills out the proper paperwork for the removal of inventory items ensuring proper University procedures are followed; works with the Universities Inventory Control area to ensure new equipment is tagged and provides direct supervision of the commissary drivers and ICAs to ensure all necessary deliveries are made in a timely manner and all are in compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures. Develops and maintains an accurate tracking system for customers by unit location and piece of equipment; controls entry to the Commissary Warehouse and ensures the upkeep of security system and recommends changes to Commissary operations to meet changing needs and priorities and improve cost-effectiveness. Updates work order and repair request information in SharePoint as to status daily; assists Area Manager with completing tracking attendance and completing evaluations and in absence of personnel must be able to fill in for drivers and ICAs as needed. Investigates and responds to any complaints from customers and any departments in assigned the areas of responsibility. Prepares evaluations for all direct reports in a timely manner; oversees all staff throughout the commissary building as required and coordinates the staging and shipping for all special events. Attends meetings and serves on committees as required this includes departmental/staff meetings, safety Committee Meetings, and other committees as assigned. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in food services area, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three years of relevant experience
  • Ability to obtain ServSafe certification within 12 months of start date.
  • Experience supervising professional food service staff.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of food ordering, storage, sanitation, and inventory control.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of menu planning, quantity food preparation, merchandising, and service.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills necessary for effective work relationships.
  • Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of, and/or experience working with diverse populations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven fiscal budgetary responsibilities.
  • Two years of experience in the warehouse and/or transportation field.
  • Experience maintaining building equipment inventory control.
  • ServSafe certification.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

The annual salary is $54,734 with outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment.
