The Basics as a Collections Manager:

  • Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Flexibility required – extended hours, based on company needs

What you’ll do as a Collections Manager:In this role, you will oversee and manage the Collections and the Collateral Resolution teams and operations. You will ensure the effective and efficient collection of delinquent accounts, minimizing losses, and maintaining positive member relations while working closely with other departments to implement and maintain collection strategies.

  • Implement Collection Strategies: Implement effective collection strategies to minimize delinquency rates and losses. Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Team Leadership and Development: Supervise, mentor, and develop the team. Provide training and continuous feedback, while fostering a positive work environment.
  • Member Relations: Handle escalated collection cases and work directly with members to negotiate repayment plans and settlements. Ensure all member interactions are conducted professionally and respectfully.
  • Monitor and Report: Regularly monitor collection activities and prepare status reports, delinquency trends, and recovery rates. Present findings to senior management. Assist department leadership in the filing of legal actions and submissions to regulatory agencies.
  • Policy Compliance: Ensure all collection activities comply with credit union policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with Other Departments: Work closely with other departments such as Accounting, Lending, Branch Operations, and Contact Center to ensure a cohesive approach to member account management.
  • Technology Utilization: Utilize collection software and other technologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the collections process.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements within the collections department. Stay current on industry trends and best practices.
  • Comply with the credit union Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Policy and Anti Money Laundering and Member Due Diligence Procedures. Ensure new hire BSA training is completed within 90 days of employment.

QualificationsMust-Have as a Collections Manager:

  • Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills. Excellent communication, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills. In-depth knowledge of collections laws and regulations, including bankruptcy lawsuit process management, credit dispute handling, and court case filing procedures. Proficiency in using collection management software and e-OSCAR. Analytical skills with the ability to interpret and create reports. Problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information. Knowledge of basic accounting principles, including General Ledger account management.
  • Experience: 5+ years of collections experience, with at least 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Education: Associate’s degree in finance, business, or a related field. Two years of additional experience can be substituted for the required education.

Nice to Have as a Collections Manager:

  • Skills: Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience: 7+ years of collections experience within a credit union or financial institution to include indirect auto loan collections, with at least 5+ years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in finance, business, or a related field.
