The Assistant Neurology Coordinator assists Adult and Pediatric Neurology RN Care Coordinators in the additional specialized needs of the Neurology patient population. Assistant Neurology Coordinators perform medical assistant functions in the Neurology clinics (e.g. vital signs review of medications as needed) assisting RNCC’s with administrative tasks, pending medication refills, and general assistance to Neurology nurse coordinators. Under the direction of the manager or designee, supports the functions of the clinic by facilitating retrieval of records, Epic InBasket coverage, and participation in medical procedures. This position requires providing service to the all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Assists the Neurology RN care coordinator and/or physician in assuring the effective and efficient operation of the clinic while maintaining consistent and accurate communication with Medical System staff, referring physicians, and patients.

As a medical assistant assists the registered nurse and/or physician through data collection concerning the physical psychological social and cultural dimensions of patients according to practice standards and institutional policy/procedure.

Organizes and prioritizes patient care activities considering the needs of the patients and the interdisciplinary team.

Implements age appropriate interventions based on individual patient’s needs as directed by the transplant coordinator/physician.

This position requires providing service all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individual served.

Assists in developing and implementing patient/family teaching plan based on identified health education needs and the condition and age of the patient.

Provides for a safe environment and safe delivery of care.

Performs administrative support responsibilities.

Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care.

Contributes to and assists with the professional development of others.

When appropriate, completes the Stroke PHQ-9 Screening Tool.

Position Compensation Range: $19.88 – $30.81 Hourly
Additional Job Description
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Medical Assistant Requirement: A technical diploma or certificate in Medical Assisting required. Associates Degree in Medical Assisting from an accredited Program of Study such as the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) preferred. OR Medic Requirement: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
Experience: 3 years clinical experience required, neurology experience is preferred.
Licensure: Medical Assistant Requirement: – Certified Medical Assistant by the AAMA (American Association of Medical Assistants), Registered Medical Assistant by the American Medical Technologists, or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant by the National Health career Association. Credential must be obtained within 6 months from the date of hire. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. OR Medic Requirement: Virginia Department of Health Emergency Medical Technician – Intermediate or Paramedic required. Paramedic preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Ability to lift/push/pull 20 – 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
