Exciting opportunity to hold a pivotal research lead role at the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Clinical Trials Centre located at the Medical Foundation Building on the Camperdown Campus
Base salary $111,966 + 17% Superannuation
About the opportunity
The NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (CTC) is a flagship academic research organization within the University of Sydney. The CTC conducts large, multicentre, and international investigator-initiated clinical trials, takes part in trials of national and international collaborative groups and contributes expertise to trials run by others. The research conducted by the CTC covers a broad range of therapeutic areas including oncology, cardiology, diabetology, nephrology, neonatal and perinatal health, and currently a number of exciting projects investigating treatments for COVID-19.
The Clinical Trial Development Manager is the key collaborator bringing researchers around Australia and globally together to develop clinical trials. This interesting role requires strong grant and protocol writing skills, excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude along with the plan to keep learning about new treatments and clinical areas.
Your key responsibilities will be to:
work in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including clinical trial funder representatives (commercial and not-for-profit), collaborative group scientific committees (including subcommittees and working parties), CTC Functional Heads, Head, Research Development, Research Operations Leads and CTC senior managers
secure funding for clinical trials and research projects, leading CTC infrastructure/development grant applications as relevant to therapeutic area
manage the pipeline of new trials within their assigned therapeutic area through facilitating the identification of gaps and facilitating development of new clinical trials/concepts
end-to-end process of drafting, preparing and obtaining input and feedback and then submitting grant applications to obtain required funding to enable development and conduct of such research projects and for maintaining strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders who drive development and facilitate funding of new research projects
About you
hold a medical or scientific related post graduate degree, or bachelor’s degree with relevant experiences
has excellent understanding of science and medicine terminology, including experience with medical writing, protocol writing and grant writing,
possess extensive knowledge of clinical trial requirements during their lifecycle from start up to close out, including a detailed understanding of the regulatory, ethical and governance processes and requirements in Australia (including a thorough knowledge of ICH GCP),
hold a minimum three years of relevant working experience in clinical trial management, as project manager, senior clinical trial operations coordinator, or similar role,
excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and achieve required outcomes,
excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; superior relationship management, conflict resolution and negotiating skills; and a demonstrated level of tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters,
proven financial management experience and literacy, including experience in preparing clinical trial budgets, securing funding, and financial reporting,
hold the ability to maintain high work standards with minimal supervision, comply with organisational SOPs, and implement continuous improvement measures in response to identified issues,
the ability to effectively work as part of a team, and
the ability and willingness to travel (<20% of time).
