Clinical Senior Lecturer in Pain Research

Job summary

We are seeking an individual in the field of pain research with a research interest in any area of basic, translational, or clinical research relevant to pain. Suitably qualified applicants are welcome from any relevant primary speciality background who fulfil the GMC credentialing criteria for Pain Medicine. The post holder will have consultant clinical sessions as part of the Pain Management Team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation. 

Duties and responsibilities

The post holder should have expertise in neuropathic pain/small fibre neuropathy diagnostics and multidisciplinary clinical management of neuropathic pain. The postholder will develop and grow existing multidisciplinary research training posts in pain research collaborating with multiple specialities and funders. The postholder will be expected to develop an internationally leading programme of research and to develop appropriate collaborations. The postholder should have a track record of high-quality publications and a proven ability to work across disciplines and specialities, harnessing the translational research focus of the Division and to collaborate with other investigators in the Department, Faculty and College.

The postholder will work with the Biomedical Research Centre (BRC), Academic Health Science Centre (AHSC) and the Clinical Academic Training Office (CATO) to develop themes for pain research for PhD students, Academic Clinical Fellows (ACFs) and Clinical Lecturers (CLs) as well as attracting funding for clinical and non-clinical research fellows. The postholder will also be a supervisor/co-supervisor of PhD students. The postholder will contribute to the Anaesthetics, Pain Medicine and Intensive Care stream of the MRes in Biomedical Research programme and other Masters programmes as appropriate and the iBSc (Anaesthesia & Critical Care).

The post holder will be expected to demonstrate a developing reputation in their field of research and an ability to attract funds to support this, to have a proven track record in publishing, education including UG Teaching, PG education and supervision as well as an outstanding reputation in provision of clinical service.

Essential requirements

  • Full GMC (General Medical Council) registration
  • Evidence of contribution to the development and performance of colleagues through coaching and mentoring
  • Experience and capability to act as a role model in areas of research, teaching and management as appropriate.
  • Appropriate experience in chronic pain management, especially in the field of neuropathic pain.

This is a full time Clinical academic appointments are conditional on medical clearance by the College Occupational Health Service and by the relevant Trust’s Occupational Health Service that the candidate is fit for the employment.
