Clinical Research Fellow in the Department of Cardiovascular Sciences

 The King’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) Centre of Research Excellence pursues research to advance the early diagnosis, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. A specific focus of the Centre is heart failure, an end-point of many common cardiovascular conditions. The Centre has approximately 100 core and affiliated PIs who cover an extensive range of basic, applied and clinical expertise. It provides a dynamic environment for interdisciplinary research and training, including excellent links to the clinical services of King’s Health Partners.  

The post-holder will join the School of Cardiovascular Medicine & Sciences as a King’s BHF Centre Clinical Research Fellow. The post holder will be responsible to develop a novel system of myocardial slices to test effect of novel biologics on heart regeneration. 

The post is offered on a part-time base 20% FTE until 31st of March 2024. 

This post will be offered on an a fixed-term contract until 31.3.24 

This is a Part time post – 20% full time equivalent

•       Creating a novel myocardial slices system for testing effect of novel biologics on heart regeneration  

•       Supporting acquisition of myocardial tissues, including ethical approval and interactions with the relevant consultant and operation managers   

•       To design and conduct a range of experiments in relation to the project  

•       To set up and run experiments, ensuring that all experiments are appropriately supervised and supported   

•       To record, analyse and write up the results of experiments  

•       To prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes  

•       To undertake the drafting and submitting of papers to appropriate peer reviewed journals   

•       To adhere to all the health and safety regulations  

•       To ensure confidentiality on all matters and information obtained during employment  

•       To engage in professional development activities as appropriate  

•       To participate in Centre activities, e.g. annual symposia, monthly seminars etc

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria

1.       Degree in Medicine

2.       Previous experience in research, e.g. Academic Foundation Programme

3.       Previous experience in working using myocardial slices

4.       In depth understanding of the field of heart regeneration

5.       Excellent presentation skills 

6.       Evidence of outstanding academic performance – e.g. undergraduate prizes, authorship on original research publications 

7.       Ability to think independently, and develop own research 

8.       Highly organised 

9.       Ability to work as member of a research team 

10.   Ability to meet deadlines and work flexibly
