Clinical Research Fellow in Psychopharmacology

About the role

The post is funded by The Centre for Psychedelic Research (part of Division of Psychiatry) to provide clinical support and to help execute a number of clinical studies across the centre including psilocybin for Opioid Use Disorder (OUD), psilocybin for gambling disorder, Microdosing: a citizen-based study and the 5-MEO-DMT imaging study. We will be investigating the clinical, psychometric and brain effects in a range of psychedelic-based studies.

What you would be doing

In the forthcoming years, the Centre will have a major focus on efficacy and brain mechanisms of psychedelic therapy for addiction including gambling disorder and (OUD). You will be aiding with patient recruitment, patient screening (both psychological and medical), obtaining consent, administrating study drugs, providing therapeutic support (e.g. as “coguide” in therapy sessions), and patient follow-up.

You will also be involved with data collection (incl. helping with brain imaging, – training will be provided), some data analysis, paper writing & publication, conference presentations. Furthermore, you will have supervising and teaching responsibilities (e.g. supervising other study medics and possibly also junior researchers and giving talks internally and at external meetings).

What we are looking for

• Registered with the GMC to practice as a medical doctor in the UK.
• Min 2 years of clinical experience from working in medical capacity in psychiatry.
• Experience from working in clinical research.
• Knowledge of the therapeutic action of psychedelic drugs.
• Training in / experience with relevant areas of psychotherapy, such as compassion focused therapy, psychodynamic theory, mindfulness/meditation.
• Experience from administrating psychoactive drugs and monitoring
• effects and safety.
• Previous work experience with OR formal training in psychedelic assisted
• psychotherapy (e.g., in a previous trial, or have undertaken a formal training program; e.g under MAPS or Institute for Psychedelic Therapies).

This is a Full Time and Fixed Term role for 1 year initially at the Hammersmith Campus.

As this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, at the appropriate level, will be required for the successful candidate.

Please note, if you’re not on an approved NHS training programme you will be appointed on the Clinical staff not holding consultant contracts salary scale.
