JOB SUMMARY
WORK DAYS, HOURS and LOCATION
Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM with some slight variations, and with possible weekend rotation. Workdays and hours are subject to change reflecting the laboratory needs.
May be required to work at other laboratory sites (Parnassus, Mission Bay, China Basin, Mt. Zion) as needed.
Holiday Work and Overtime
Holidays may be assigned on a rotational basis, and overtime is assigned only if there are insufficient volunteers. Either compensatory time off or overtime pay is taken in accordance with policies of the University and the Clinical Laboratories at the UCSF Medical Center .
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
A new employee must accomplish the following tasks within the 6-month probationary period or within the first 6 months from hiring date if a probationary period does not apply. The following describes performance standards that are expected of all employees hired at this level. Attaining these performance standards will require instructions from supervisors and/or person(s) designated by the supervisor, and initiative by the employee. In addition, the employee must adhere to the Department policies at the UCSF Medical Center .
Required Qualifications
- Valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.
- Demonstrated superior theoretical knowledge, technical judgment and skills and the ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
- Assumes responsibilities for keeping abreast of technical developments through current literature review. As requested by a Microbiology Supervisor, evaluates new procedures and makes recommendations.
- Bachelor of Science degree.
- Two years of recent experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
- Recent experience with Metagenomic Next Generation Sequencing assay performance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefer five years of Microbiology experience, to include, but not exclusive of, experience in:
- High volume hospital clinical laboratory.
- Current automated equipment/methods in the area of specialty.
- Development of new assays.
- Writing SOP.
- Teaching, including orientation and training of employee.
- Word processing, spreadsheet and database applications.
License/Certification
- Valid California Department of Health Clinical Laboratory Technologist license.
