Clinical Information Services Librarian, Norris Medical Library (#383)

The University of Southern California (USC) Libraries invites innovative, service-oriented, and outstanding candidates to fill the following 5-year contract librarian position as Clinical Information Services Librarian, Norris Medical Library with an anticipated start date of October 2022.

Position Responsibilities and Duties

Reporting to the Head, Norris Medical Library, the Clinical Information Services Librarian will:

  • Work collaboratively with clinical staff, faculty, residents and other stakeholders at the Keck Hospital of USC and the Nurses of USC Program:
    • To develop and offer educational sessions on information resources and tools that provide the best available research to ensure evidence-based decision making
    • To support the continuation of Magnet Recognition status
    • To serve as part of an interdisciplinary team of professionals with the goal of supporting quality patient care plans which can include attending hospital rounds, case conferences, and other clinically relevant forums to respond to information queries at the point of need
  • Participate in the Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Council or other relevant committees
  • Explore potential new areas  and funding for collection development to broaden and deepen the existing collection to support the research and clinical needs of the Keck Hospital of USC and the Nurses of USC Program
  • Participate in all in-person and online orientation and reference services in the Norris Medical Library and serve as the main point of contact for the reference requests and consultations regarding clinical research and information
  • Participate as requested in systematic review consultation services
  • Collaboratewithotherlibrariansand staffatthe Norris Medical Library and across the broader USC Libraries on special projects, committees, task forces and working groups
  • Engage in professional and/or subject discipline organizations, research, or publishing that will have a significant, positive impact and advance the strategic plans of USC Libraries and USC
  • Duties may include weekend, early morning, or evening hours
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience and Qualifications

Minimum qualifications : MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program or non-U.S. equivalent is typically required. In addition, candidates must provide examples of:

  • At least two years of professional experience in an academic health sciences or hospital library providing information services
  • Demonstrated experience providing instruction to health professionals, students, or researchers in evidence-based medicine
  • Demonstrated ability to foster new connections and build relationships
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively as part of a team within a culturally diverse user community of students, staff, and faculty and commitment to delivering student-centered public services to diverse user populations
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Desirable qualifications:

  • Experience participating in clinical rounds, case conferences, or other clinical forums
  • Experience training clinical staff and faculty in searching databases to find evidence to answer clinical questions
  • Experience with expert searching techniques and conducting systematic reviews
  • Experience or knowledge of building or working with inter-professional teams

Faculty Appointment Rank and Salary

Rank: Contract Librarian

This position is full-time on a fixed-term, five-year, non-continuing appointment contract, renewable as needed. Starting minimum salary for faculty at USC: $72,000. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.
