Clinical Educational Facilitator Undergraduate Teaching

Hull York Medical School is looking for a practicing clinician who is passionate about educating the doctors and healthcare professionals of the future.

An opportunity has arisen within the School for a Clinical Educational Facilitator.  This role forms a vital part of the undergraduate MB BS programme.

We currently have a post to offer at the University of Hull site. A PBL tutor in this role will work Tuesday and Friday afternoons during university term time.

The post is as follows:  1 x 0.185 FTE (7hrs 24 mins per week) permanent.

Due to present restrictions due to Covid-19, some of the teaching this year has been via virtual methods.  We hope to deliver teaching face to face but obviously this will be subject to Covid restrictions in force at the time.  Training and support for this will be provided.

As well as an enthusiasm for teaching and developing skills in our students, we are looking for clinicians who will inspire students to achieve their best, both academically and professionally, providing strong role models for their subsequent development.  The successful applicant will be keen to develop their educational role; you may not already have experience of Problem Based Learning (PBL) or higher educational qualifications, but we welcome applications from those who are willing to undertake these.

Clinical Educational Facilitator roles are supported with tutoring and student support activities through continued professional development.  There is a robust programme of training, peer support and observation, given in both PBL facilitation and clinical skills teaching. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to assessment and admissions processes as part of their role.

The applicant for the Clinical Educational Facilitator role will need to commit to a minimum of two, fixed teaching sessions per week in one of the slots described above for PBL/Clinical Skills facilitation during the academic term and will be based at the Hull site. We expect the applicant to commit to all dates within the academic terms. Additionally, successful applicants will be expected to contribute approximately 2.5 hours per week for preparatory work, paid for within the contract and a minimum of 4 days per year involvement in assessment and admissions activities.

To discuss this role informally, please contact Dr Chris Buswell, Director of PBL, [email protected]
