Clinical Education – Occupational Therapy

  • Two full-time continuing positions available

  • Make a significant contribution to teaching and learning practice within the Faculty of Medicine and Health, and contribute to the development of clinical skills

  • Base Salary between $100,717 – $134,403 (contingent upon experience) + 17% superannuation

The Sydney School of Health Sciences is known for world-leading health sciences education and research. We have two opportunities available for full-time continuing Clinical Educators in Occupational Therapy. Clinical educators are an essential part of the education workforce at the University of Sydney who make important contributions to health workforce. Education-focused roles are a specialist category of academic engagement reserved for talented educators with a passion for, and demonstrated excellence in, pedagogical practice and design. Our ideal candidates are committed to teaching, specifically clinical education, and are ready to contribute within Occupational Therapy as part of a multi-disciplinary team at the Faculty of Medicine and Health. As a Lecturer Clinical Education – Occupational Therapist (Level B) you will contribute to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation, and outcomes whilst engaging in research supervision, and applying your clinical knowledge and expertise to innovate teaching and learning. As an Associate Lecturer Clinical Education – Occupational Therapist (Level A), you will apply your clinical knowledge and experience to inform teaching and learning practice.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • contribute to the discipline’s outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation, and outcomes

  • apply clinical knowledge and expertise to innovate teaching and learning

  • work as an effective team member and, as required, coordinate units of study

  • contribute to the education and administrative activities of the school

  • contribute to positive workplace culture within the school

  • contribute to the strategic direction of the discipline, faculty, and university

  • engage beyond the university (clinical and industry partners to the benefit of students & staff).

About you

You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following selection criteria. Within the context of the ‘key responsibilities’ outlined above, the ideal applicants can demonstrate the following selection criteria:

  • are registered or are eligible for registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia

  • have a demonstrated understanding of Occupational Therapy; scope of practice; and professional competencies required for occupational therapy practice. Expertise will be highly valued in the areas of inpatient, outpatient and / or community-based neurorehabilitation, general medical and/or physical rehabilitation; assistive technology and/or environmental modifications

  • demonstrated capacity to stimulate, actively engage and educate students in the provision of outstanding patient care

  • experience in clinical teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in student coaching and skills development, peer-assisted teaching and learning, outreach activities or similar

  • experience working within the relevant industry or clinical setting

  • a developing knowledge and understanding of contemporary clinical teaching practices and effective curriculum design

In addition to the above, for the Level B position:

  • demonstrated success in designing implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives with a clinical focus

  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities

  • significant experience working in a clinical setting and proven ability to apply expertise and knowledge to inform pedagogical practice (usually more than 3 years post accredited primary healthcare qualification)

  • a relevant post-graduate level qualification.

Please note: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. For the fixed-term position, you must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident.

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
