The University of Miami is seeking a Clinic Assistant to work at Applebaum MRC Center in Miami. The incumbent supports the Department of Imaging Services with preparation of patients prior to, during, and following imaging exams.  The clinical assistant communicates effectively and works closely with the patients, technologists, and physicians to ensure that patient’s services are provided in a timely manner. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential in addition to responsibility for designated areas. 

This position uses computer systems to access permitted Protected Health Information (PHI).   Employee must adhere to PHI “minimum necessary” compliance standards at all times.

Core Job Functions

  • Greets patients upon notification of front desk of patient arrival, and verifies patient information from Uchart, PACS, pre-screening forms and patient wristband.

  • Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand service requirements.

  • Verify the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband. Receive patients, explain the nature of the examination and answer patient questions.

  • Advise patient of delays and maintains constant contact with technologist in order to maintain daily schedule.

  • Obtain signature from patient on required consent forms, financial obligation agreement and other forms as needed – cross reference with any prior exams Utilizes Uchart and PACS to track patient flow.

  • Schedule patients for procedures; assist with clerical functions. Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients according to their documented physical/development requirement by competency validation checklist:

  • Children

  • Adolescents

  • Adults

  • Geriatric

  • Challenged/Disabled

  • Keeps work area in a clean and sanitary condition and stocks exam/dressing rooms with required supplies. Give all cleared paper work to technologist/Tech Aide and check on wait time prior to informing patient.

  • Assists technologists in imaging preparations as needed.

  • Receive outside films/great visitors and direct them to appropriate individuals. Abide by to hospital/department HR policies.

  • Adheres to any regulatory body guidelines governing modality including but not limited to: Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA.

Minimum Qualifications (Essential Requirements):

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Medical office experience preferred.
