Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the Occupational Therapy Program Director, the full time faculty member supports the University in fulfillment of its mission, purpose and goals. Provides program-specific expertise and is actively engaged in relevant department initiatives. Supports University, Campus, and/or departmental goals in order to assure compliance with programmatic accreditation and/or licensure, internal consistency, and graduate outcomes that meet student learning, workplace and placement expectations.  Provides professional leadership and support, and serves as an educator, role model, mentor, and facilitator. Focuses extensively on facilitating student learning associated with prescribed course and program learning outcomes.  Creates an educational environment which fosters innovation, responsiveness, and accountability. Focuses extensively on facilitating student learning associated with prescribed course and program learning outcomes.  Actively and substantively participates in assessment of student learning activities to maximize the potential for students to learn what is necessary to meet prescribed outcomes.  Vigorously upholds a culture of academic integrity.

Position Responsibilities:

INSTRUCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fulfills assigned teaching load of 18 credits per year
  • Participates in and contributes to assessment activities of courses/curriculum and program via a continuous improvement plan as set forth by the University
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm for teaching and the teaching/learning process and for individual students
  • Facilitates student learning in accordance with prescribed course and program learning outcomes
  • Regularly contributes to improvement or upgrading of class materials and syllabi
  • Follows established protocols for providing timely feedback, academic advising, and assessment of student learning
  • Keeps regular approved office hours (for FT faculty)
  • Mentors students and faculty as assigned by department/program dean/director
  • Explores scholarly research to improve teaching and instruction
  • Begins to explore cross-disciplinary approaches to instruction

SCHOLARLY ACTIVITIES:

  • Attends professional development activities each year as agreed upon with supervisor in associate development plan
  • Selects a minimum of one of the following activity areas: publishing & writing, acting as contributor to textbooks, presenting at conferences or educational trainings, attending test-writing or accreditation activities, serving on thesis dissertation committee or other agreed upon professional activity

OR

  • Identifies and applies specialized research or activities related to teaching, assigned teaching area(s), or may contribute to the scholarly community/knowledge of the discipline

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND SERVICE:

  • Attends Department, College and University meetings/councils as arranged/approved by program director
  • Develops connections within professional community both inside and outside the University/Occupational Therapy program
  • Contributes/demonstrates ongoing service in at least one of the following areas:
    • Community or Public Service
    • Profession (member of professional organization)
    • University/Occupational Therapy program
  • Other duties as assigned

Experience & Educational Background:

EDUCATION

  • PhD or Occupational Therapy Doctoral degree from an accredited university preferred
  • Should provide a documented background in educational methodology consistent with teaching assignments including but not limited to education theory and practice, or current concepts relative to specific subjects he or she will be teaching, or current clinical practice experience, or distance education techniques and delivery

EXPERIENCE

  • Two or more years teaching experience (either adjunct, full or part-time) in an ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education) accredited Occupational Therapy program Instructional experience must be at institutions which are Title IV funding eligible
  • Minimum of four years of experience in clinical practice with at least two years of experience in supervising internship students
  • Expertise in areas such as older adult/adult practice, adult neurological diseases, mental health, or research is preferred, with documented experience or certification(s) in area(s) of specialization (neurorehabilitation, or mental health, or orthopedic/hand rehabilitation, or pediatrics)

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

  • Certified by NBCOT (The National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy) as an OTR (Registered Occupational Therapist) required
  • Licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of New York required
  • Membership with the American Occupational Therapy Association required
  • Must meet and maintain the qualifications and standards set forth by any accreditation body that Yeshiva University is accredited by or in process of obtaining accreditation from, for area of expertise and expectations of faculty member as set forth in regulatory documents and any professional certifications deemed necessary to meet the requirements of the teaching role
  • Experience with online learning management systems to further engage students in the teaching/learning process

Skills & Competencies:

  • Knowledge of state, federal and local laws/regulations relating to programs, governmental compliance and other regulatory standards
  • Ability to demonstrate clinical competency
  • Ability to maintain academic standards
  • Ability to work independently with general supervision
  • Ability to demonstrate a thorough, accurate and practical knowledge of their field or discipline
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
  • Ability to effectively operate related equipment and machines for instructional purposes
  • Ability to manage and work effectively in a highly ethnic and culturally diverse student and associate community
  • Ability to use effective communication skills, both oral and written, including presentations and effective listening skills
  • Ability to use creative facilitation and conflict resolution skills to resolve difficult and sensitive issues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Products, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and other MS office products as needed
