The Clinical Research Coordinator I will work as a member of a multi-disciplinary research team led by Dr. Anne Dunlop (Emory SOM Dept Gyn-Ob), Dr. Rasheeta Chandler (Emory SON), and Dr. Natalie Hernandez (Morehouse SOM Dept Gyn-Ob) to conduct a clinical trial that will enroll prenatal patients from Grady Memorial Hospital to evaluate the impact of provision of community-based patient navigators from early pregnancy through one year post-birth on maternal health outcomes (health care utilization, receipt of guideline-concordant care, patient satisfaction with care, and occurrence of maternal morbidity and severe maternal morbidity).

 

Job Description:

  • Handles or assists with administrative activities generally associated with the conduct of clinical trials.
  • Maintains data pertaining to research projects, completes source documents/case report forms, and performs data entry.
  • Assists with patient recruitment.
  • Attends study meetings.
  • Orders and maintains equipment and supplies.
  • Reviews medical records and/or conducts screenings for recruitment of study participants, performs interviews and QOL questionnaires.
  • Collects study specimen according to protocol which may include phlebotomy, processing, and preparation for shipping.
  • Coordinates services, schedules procedures, creates and maintains case packages, and monitors charges.
  • Assists with quality assurance and tracks regulatory submissions.
  • Performs related approved responsibilities as required.

Specific duties of this position will include:

  • Attends study meetings with Principal Investigator team and other staff.
  • Reviews medical records and/or conducts screenings for recruitment of study participants, performs interviews and questionnaires.
  • Maintains data pertaining to research projects, completes source documents/case report forms, and performs data entry.
  • Working with the PI to develop and program the RedCap data base to capture all data for the clinical trial and to track potential participant outreach, consent, and data collection;
  • Working with the PI to develop and program the RedCap data base to schedule enrolled participants for their follow-up intervention and data collection encounters;
  • Reviewing medical records of patients seeking prenatal care at Grady Memorial Hospital to identify those potentially eligible for enrollment;
  • Reviewing the scheduled encounters of enrolled participants to coordinate follow-up intervention and data collection visits;
  • Interfacing with the Morehouse Patient Navigator team who will be involved in delivering the patient navigation intervention to enrolled participants;
  • Performing medical record abstraction to ascertain patient pregnancy-related outcomes and postpartum/maternal health care utilization and health outcomes through one year post-birth;
  • Follow-up with participants to obtain missing data or to clarify existing data; entry of data into a data base; quality checking of data entry.
  • Interfacing with the study Principal Investigators and the research team on a regular basis to implement and monitor adherence to research protocols and standard operating procedures for the research study.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED and three years of administrative support experience OR
  • Two years of college in a scientific, health related, or business administration program and one year of admin support or customer service experience OR
  • Licensed as a practical nurse (LPN) and one year admin support or one year of licensed practical nursing experience OR
  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree, MD or PhD in a scientific, health related or business administration program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in clinical research within Grady Health System;
  • Experience working in clinical research that involves pregnant and postpartum patients;
  • Experience in using the EPIC medical record system to view patient schedules and abstract medical records;
  • Experience in designing RedCap data capture systems for participant consent, questionnaire data collection, and tracking/scheduling of study-related visits;
  • Experience in using RedCap data capture systems to monitor data quality and monitor data completeness;
  • Experience interfacing with and supervising other clinical research staff;
  • Experience with clinical trials;
  • Availability to consistently work on site at Grady Memorial Hospital and its affiliated clinics.

This position is intended to support clinical research and all clinical training requirements must be tracked and monitored through Emory Healthcare under the credentialing category of CLINICAL RESEARCHER.
