• Salary Package, HEW Level 2 ($58,328 – $61,417 p.a), plus 17% employer’s superannuation and annual leave loading
• Full-time, Fixed term (12 month appointment)

THE ROLE

The Macquarie University Special Education Centre (MUSEC School) is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and highly organised Classroom Assistant to provide support in the delivery of education programs for primary aged students with a range of special needs in years K-6. The Classroom Assistant will undertake tasks aimed at supporting students’ participation in the program, including assisting the students with personal care, participation and play as required in the classroom and playground.

Reporting to the Master Special Education Teacher and working closely with other MUSEC teaching staff, this is a unique and exciting opportunity to further develop your skills and experience working with children with special education needs within a supportive and collaborative work environment.

You will have classroom experience working as a part of a team to support students between the years K-6 with a range of special learning needs. You enjoy working collaboratively in the classroom and enjoy taking on a wide range of different tasks to support students learning and development. Working within a supportive and collaborative teaching environment, the MUSEC classroom team structure comprises of Master Special Education Teachers, Special Education Teachers, Classroom Assistants, a Speech Pathologist, and a Visual Arts Teacher.

• Demonstrated experience working with children with special learning needs;

• Demonstrated experience working in a K-6 primary school environment;

• Experience and knowledge of safety standards and protocols for working with children;

• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to support students with special learning needs;

• Ability to communicate effectively with teachers and children;

• Strong time management and organisation skills;

• Current Working with Children’s Check (WWCC);

• First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain a certificate.

Note: The position of Special Education Teacher requires the successful candidate to comply with occupational screening assessment and vaccinations in line with Macquarie Universities health requirements. The position also requires a current and valid Working with Children Check Clearance for NSW. Macquarie University must be satisfied that all background checks, including a criminal record and qualification check are completed.
