UNICEF Malaysia is at an exciting time as it expands its advocacy and programming footprint, and we need great fundraising professionals to support us in this effort.

Your role, as a member of the UNICEF Malaysia Senior Management Team, will enable this life-saving and critical work in the most direct way: by leading the fundraising unit which lets us help the most in need and the most difficult to reach.  

You will be leading a large, dynamic, highly committed and performance-driven team responsible for overseeing and expanding a fundraising programme that delivers over 22m USD of income every year.

Country Context

UNICEF Malaysia is a unique country office in that it is in an upper middle-income country, but one with significant remaining disparities and inequalities where both advocacy and programming approaches are required. UNICEF adds value by influencing the development narrative of the country through quality evidence generation, evidence-based advocacy and policy recommendations, supported by partnerships and alliances with civil society, the private sector, academia, and think tanks.

How can you make a difference? 

As head of the PFP team, you will be responsible for leading all UNICEF fundraising from the private sector and supporting broader engagement with business and key influencers in the private sector. Under the general guidance of the Representative, you will be responsible for overall leadership, coordination, planning, development, and realization of the country office’s private sector fundraising activities, in line with UNICEF’s global private sector strategy.

The PFP Chief will have the following leadership and managerial responsibilities:

  1. Leading and managing the Private Sector Fundraising Team
  2. Developing the Private Sector Plan for the country office and ensuring achievement of goals
  3. Acquiring, cultivating, and retaining individual donors and supporters
  4. Establishing and managing meaningful partnerships

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

Education: 

  • An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in one of the following fields is required: Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, Management, or another relevant technical field.
  • Alternatively, a first university degree in a relevant field combined with two additional years (10 years) of professional experience may be accepted in lieu of an Advanced University degree.

Work Experience:

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of professional experience in private sector fundraising is required, with progressively increasing responsibilities, including direct responsibility for setting and meeting income targets.
  • Management experience is essential
  • Experience in and knowledge of the country context is an asset
  • International fundraising experience is an asset

Skills: 

  • Proven ability to develop effective long-term strategic fundraising plans, with appropriate allocation of time and resources, and foresee risks and allow for contingencies when planning.
  • Proven ability to implement clear goals that are consistent with agreed strategies, identify priority activities, adjust priorities as needed to meet organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and seize new fundraising opportunities, formulating new fundraising strategies and models.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected challenges and proposing countermeasures accordingly.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and encourage innovative ideas, foster a culture of innovation within the team. Strong entrepreneurial skills.
  • Diplomatic negotiation, influencing and networking skills to establish and maintain trusted partnerships and to develop close and effective working relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excellent communications skills, verbal and written.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in oral and written English.  

Desirables:

  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency.

Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
