Offer Description

– Designing and managing research projects as part of the ANR project
– Carry out genetic and biochemical experiments to elucidate the molecular molecular mechanisms of chloroplast signalling
– Analyse physiological parameters (growth, photosynthesis, etc.) for the same purpose
– Supervising trainees and students associated with the project
– Communicate the results (national/international seminars, publications, lab and institute meetings)

The mission of the postdoctoral researcher will be to study the molecular mechanisms of chloroplast signalling in the model plant Arabidopsis as part of an ANR project.

The candidate will work in the “Luminy Génétique et Biophysique des Plantes” team on the Luminy Science and Technology Campus located in the Calanques National Park in Marseille. The LGBP is part of the Institut de Biosciences et Biotechnologies Aix Marseille (BIAM), which is a Joint Research Unit (UMR) with around a hundred permanent staff and around fifty non-permanent staff (fixed-term contracts, PhD and post-doctoral students, trainees). The UMR is located on the CEA Cadarache site and on the campus of the Faculty of Science at Luminy. BIAM’s fundamental research projects aim to understand the mechanisms involved in the response and adaptation of living organisms to environmental constraints and to develop technologies dedicated to preserving the quality of our environment. They are carried out using a number of multidisciplinary approaches based on model organisms (algae, plants, bacteria) or on the most suitable organisms based on studies of biodiversity.

The nucleotides guanosine tetraphosphate and guanosine pentaphosphate (together (p)ppGpp) are present in a wide range of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms where they are associated with signalling in response to environmental stress. Recent research has highlighted the role of (p)ppGpp signalling as a conserved regulator of photosynthetic activity in the chloroplasts of plants and algae. However, the molecular mechanisms of (p)ppGpp signalling are not yet fully described. Our aim is to take advantage of our tools and recent discoveries to discover the molecular mechanisms of (p)ppGpp signalling in the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana.

Additional Information
Eligibility criteria

– PhD within the last 2 years with evidence of scientific production
– mastery of biochemistry techniques (immunoblot, immunoprecipitation, LC-MSMS) and plant molecular genetics. Experience with the latest cloning techniques would be a plus
– if possible, experience of protein stability analysis in plants, and/or chloroplast biochemistry
– A good level of scientific communication (oral and written) is essential
