1Main purpose of job:The British Ambassador’s Residence has an excellent team of staff responsible for the wellbeing and entertainment of all guests within the Residence, which involves a vast programme of events and visits that requires the utmost professional team to aid in this essential part of diplomatic life.The Chef de Partie works closely with and reports directly to the Head Chef and is an extremely important position within this highly effective team. This is a live-in position, with accommodation provided.Roles and responsibilities:Achieve the highest standard of food production, exhibiting attention-to-detail and finesse in preparation and presentation, working alongside the head and sous chef to achieve the goals set for the day. Be solely responsible for one section of the kitchen and all it entails.

  • Be responsible for the organisation and preparation of all mise-en-place in one section (either Larder, pastry, or sauce).
  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of canapés for receptions and dinners.
  • Assist with menu planning.
  • Assist the Executive Chef as needed while still being able to operate under minimal guidance.
  • Follow recipes and instruction and accommodate dietary restrictions when needed.
  • Prepare breakfast, lunch and dinner meals for the Ambassador and spouse to high standard and adhere to preferences, guidelines and style set.
  • Be aware of seasonal changes, utilising seasonal produce, when possible, to achieve set goals.
  • Inform the chef of any shortages of stock in a timely manner, so produce can be ordered in a timely manner.
  • Regularly clean equipment and kitchen apparatuses to ensure hygienic working area.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as assigned.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience 1

  • At least 3 years of previous culinary experience, with experience running sections, including pastry.
  • Applicants must also have a willingness to work overtime on an as-needed basis.
  • Scheduling flexibility is a must, as the position may require evenings and weekends.
  • The ability to follow direction exactly and be willing to take on any task.
  • The ability to take creative feedback.
  • Desire to be an effective team member.
  • Desire to learn new skills on the job.
  • Attention-to-detail.
  • Ability to provide a high standard of service.
  • Good spoken and written English.
  • Legal status to live and work in the US in your own right, from time of application.
