Department Summary The College of Health and Public Service (HPS) at the University of North Texas, distinguished as one of the few Tier One research universities designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), prepares graduates to address diverse and complex social issues such as aging, disability, disaster management and recovery, criminal justice, health disparities, and public safety, and find solutions to challenges in public administration, public health, and urban design. We have seven academic departments with undergraduate and graduate programs, the Center for Public Management, the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, UNT Workplace Inclusion & Sustainable Employment (WISE) and a number of professional development and clinical training programs to facilitate careers to address a global society.
HPS students are trained to lead nonprofits, become educators, researchers and professionals who strengthen the diverse communities we serve with thoughtful, inclusive and equitable practices as audiologists, behavior analysts, city managers, emergency managers, health care administrators, public safety administrators, public health specialists, rehabilitation counselors, speech language pathologists, social workers, urban planners and more.
The Department of Rehabilitation & Health Services works to foster positive health outcomes across the lifespan to ensure equity for all. It is home to a distinguished, interdisciplinary portfolio of degree programs that serve 800 students, including 150 graduate students in the M.S. in Heath Services Administration, M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling, and Ph.D. in Health Sciences. The Department has 17 full-time faculty with expertise in rehabilitation counseling, substance use, health services, behavioral health, and applied gerontology. The faculty are community-engaged scholars whose research, teaching, and service are supported by clinics and centers that expand the reach and impact of the Department beyond the academy
UNT has a highly diverse campus with a wide range of languages spoken in addition to English. We welcome candidates who have experience with HSI/MSIs and/or who speak Spanish, Vietnamese, American Sign Language, Chinese (Cantonese, Mandarin and other variations), Arabic, Tagalog, Farsi, French, or/and Yoruba.
Position Summary The Department of Rehabilitation & Health Services invites applications for the position of Department Chair, a 12-month administrative appointment to begin Fall 2023. The Department Chair will be appointed at the rank of Full Professor with tenure. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Health and Public Service.
We seek an experienced, innovative, and collaborative leader with the capacity to leverage the potential of the department, its faculty, and students. The successful candidate will lead the department with a compelling vision for continued excellence and growth; promote an inclusive and engaging environment; further enhance the department’s reputation for excellence in research and external funding; and operate within a multidisciplinary environment in such a way as to continuously enhance research, teaching, and service.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A doctoral degree in rehabilitation counselor education, counselor education, public health, health management, or a closely related field;
  • Tenure at their current institution;
  • Evidence of scholarly, teaching, and administrative excellence to qualify for the rank of Professor with tenure at UNT;
  • Demonstrated commitment to accessibility and excellence in teaching and service that supports equity and inclusion for all in the academic community;
  • A minimum of five years of administrative experience, including at least three years of administrative experience within an academic setting.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A record of accomplishment working collaboratively with faculty and community partners across disciplines and boundaries.
  • Demonstrated success securing and managing NIH, NSF, or similar external funding opportunities.
  • Knowledge of online delivery methods, principles, and techniques.
  • Experience with the CACREP or CAHME accreditation process.
