Organizational Unit Overview The Department of Family Medicine is one of eleven clinical departments at the Brody School of Medicine. The purpose of the department is to improve the health of the people of eastern North Carolina through leadership in Family Medicine education, research and health care services. The department provides accessible, high quality health care for its patients. The Department of Family Medicine consists of seven divisions, as well as a central administration office. Each division has a responsibility that supports the overall mission of the department. The divisions include educational development, research, medical student education, residency, geriatrics, clinical services, and sports medicine. Clinical activities take place in the Family Medicine Center, Robert and Frances Monk Geriatric Center, Firetower Medical Office, nursing homes, Vidant Medical Center and in the community.
Job Duties The Department of Family Medicine is seeking a Medical Assistant to assist with the flow of clinic patients. Responsibilities of this position include performing patient workups, assisting health care providers with clinical procedures, administering medications, and performing basic laboratory tests. Experience in primary care and/or medical office clinical experience (including knowledge of vital sign measurements, injection protocols, pulmonary function tests, and EKG testing) .

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Minimum Education/Experience Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require registration as a Nurse Aide by the North Carolina Board of Nursing, or certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA.)
License or Certification required by statute or regulation Certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) is preferred OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through the American Medical Technologists (AMT).
If not already certified or registered, please note that certification or registration through the previous mentioned organizations, or a CCMA through the National Healthcareer Association, must be obtained 6 months from your start date for continued employment.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education Prior medical office experience highly desirable.
Current basic CPR certification is preferred.
Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal communication skills and the basic computer skills needed for entering data into the electronic medical record.
Accuracy and attention to detail are crucial.
