Department of Geography (Professor Gail Chmura)

Position Summary:

• Exam estuarine ecosystems as natural climate solutions and how anthropogenic activities impact them;
• Examination of carbon sequestered soils in association with Parks Canada and the Dept. of Fisheries and Oceans;
• Preparation (drying, weighing and grinding) of soil samples for measurement of carbon content, stable isotope analyses and dating
• Determine rates of carbon sequestration;
• Subsampling from cores , use of a muffle furnace, data entry and analyses,
• Preparing materials to be used in field experiments, assisting in lab organization and maintenance and obtaining supplies.

Qualifications:

Must have an eye for detail as work entails working with small samples. Some experience with Excel. Experience with content an asset. Experience and education: –    Must be 1st year undergrad
