Carnegie Trust PhD Scholarships

Carnegie Trust PhD Scholarships

Summary

Carnegie PhD Scholarships are prestigious schemes of scholarships designed to support a limited number of graduates with first class honours degrees who will pursue three years of postgraduate research leading to a PhD at a Scottish university. There is no restriction on the subject or field.

Description

The University of Aberdeen can nominate up to five candidates for consideration by the Carnegie Trust Selection Committee for its prestigious PhD Scholarship Schemes. Scholarships provide fees, maintenance, research and travel allowances (please read the regulations for full details).

Eligibility

Graduates of a Scottish university holding or expecting to achieve a degree with first-class honours in any subject and intending to pursue three years of postgraduate research leading to a PhD can be nominated by their university for the award of a Carnegie Scholarship. Only students who have undertaken or are undertaking their first degree at a Scottish university are eligible. Students who have not undertaken their first degree at a Scottish university but are undertaking a one year postgraduate degree at a Scottish university are not eligible to apply for a Scholarship. Students in their final undergraduate year, who are expected to achieve first-class honours, may be nominated and then withdrawn, should they fail to achieve this grade. International students who hold a first class honours degree from a Scottish university are eligible to apply. The Carnegie Trust will only cover the cost of the equivalent fees for UK/EU students and universities are expected to waive the outstanding balance for international fees.

Criteria

Scholarships are only available for tenure at a Scottish university. Students wishing to apply to a university outside Scotland are not eligible.
