Career Services Coordinator, Student Development

The Career Services Coordinator is a full-time (12 month), professional, on-campus position that is responsible for assisting students and alumni in their career planning and development, and engaging with employers to assist them in their hiring needs. The Coordinator works with students, alumni, employers, and various campus and community constituencies to identify and implement career ideas, plans, and goals.

Job Duties of the Coordinator include but are not limited to:

Programming and Engagement:

  • Develop, coordinate, and implement career development and exploration opportunities and programming such as career fairs, internships, workshops, and presentations on career, workforce, and transferable skills topics.
  • Engage students and alumni in career guidance and the development of employment skills and strategies such as resume and cover letter writing, job searching, interviewing, and other aspects of career development and planning.
  • Manage and maintain career development resources and online platforms for job and internship postings, career interest and skills assessments, resume and cover letter writing, and mock interviews.
  • Connect students, alumni, and employers through programs and services through such offers as networking opportunities, career fairs, position postings, and other relevant career services initiatives.

Employer Relations:

  • Identify and advertise information about job and internship opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Identify, develop, and maintain strong and ongoing relationships with employers and recruiters for the purpose of expanding employment and internship opportunities for students and alumni.

Campus Involvement:

  • Work with academic departments and other campus constituencies on strategies to promote career and internship opportunities for students.
  • Attend, participate, and present at events, trainings, meetings, conferences, and other professional and staff development as relevant or requested.
  • Serve on campus, community, and professional committees and represent department as relevant or requested.

Strategic Planning and Assessment:

  • Stay current and implement best practices on trends in career services and in the labor market or career development.
  • Maintain and engage in appropriate benchmarking, tracking, assessment, reporting, and strategic planning initiatives for career services programs and services as well as department-wide offerings.

Student Development Engagement:

  • Professionally and efficiently execute Cameron University’s commitment to student success.
  • Assist with preparing, proposing, and managing budgets for programs, services, and events.
  • Assist with the support and delivery of departmental services and projects in order to meet the goals and expectations of the Division, Department, and University

Supervision:

The Career Services Coordinator reports to the Director of Student Development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Experience with group and individual presentations and event planning
  • Ability to work both independently and in a group on tasks and objectives
  • Ability and willingness to work occasionally during evenings or weekends as necessary in the performance of assigned duties
  • Valid driver’s license

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, human resources, or related field
  • Experience in higher education or business setting involving significant interaction with students or the public
  • Knowledge and experience in career counseling, resume writing, interview procedures, and job application process

SALARY RANGE:

$28,000 – $31,000, commensurate with experience
