Introduction (Description of School/College/Dept/Program) UWM College of General Studies is a great choice for local students who want a two-year degree or a valuable start to a four-year degree. Job Summary The College of General Studies (CGS), located on the Waukesha and Washington County campuses of the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee (UWM), invites applications for a Career Development Coordinator position. This position is a ONE YEAR (12 month) appointment from the start date.
Under the supervision of the Director of Continuing Education and Professional Development with shared authority of the Assistant Director of Student Affairs at UWM at Waukesha, the position-holder will:
  • Establish and cultivate relationships with community and business leaders to develop customized trainings and quality consulting that results in positive client outcomes and engagement with the campuses of the College of General Studies and its constituents
  • Implement a plan of action for small business activities, conferences, and educational opportunities throughout southeastern Wisconsin
  • Create and sustain internship and career development opportunities for students
  • Support faculty members, instructors, and mentors serving as academic supervisors for training and career development programs
  • Develop and disseminate educational, economic, and social resources to students, including programming to enhance students’ job search, preparation, and performance skills
  • Provide guidance to students related to the world of work
  • Supervise a graduate student in the Career Planning and Internship Program

The University of Wisconsin (UW) System offers a comprehensive benefits package to meet the diverse needs of our community. The University contributes towards the cost of several benefit plans. Employees also receive a vacation package of 176 hours per fiscal year, sick leave (with no expiration), personal holiday (36hrs each year), and paid legal holidays.
Minimum salary for this position is $42,500/annual however final salary offer for the final candidate will be contingent upon the knowledge, skills, and abilities demonstrated throughout the screening process .

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in business, communication, or related field
  • 2 or more years experience in career development and/or community outreach role
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 and Adobe suite applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree or higher in business, counseling, education, communication, or related field
  • Experience preparing business plans and preparing financial statements
  • Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written presentational skills
  • Demonstrated managerial and leadership skills
