About us:

The Dalla Lana School of Public Health is a Faculty of the University of Toronto that originated as one of the Schools of Hygiene begun by the Rockefeller Foundation in 1927. The School, which plays a criticalrole in the COVID-19 pandemic response, went through a dramatic renaissance after the 2003 SARS crisis and it is now the largest public health school in Canada, with more than 850 faculty, 1,000 students, and research and training partnerships with institutions throughout Toronto and the world. With $76 million in research funding per year, including more than $31.5 million held at DLSPH, the School contributes to improving population health and health policy and health systems through discoveries and innovation in data science and AI, maternal, child and reproductive health, climate change [response], implementation and improvement sciences, preventable disease through vaccines and prevention through [and] wellness such as with diabetes, comparative health policy, sustainable and equitable health systems, global and Indigenous health, among many other areas.

Your opportunity:

The Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (CanPath) project is Canada’s largest population cohort study and a national platform for population-level health research. CanPath allows researchers to explore how genetics, environment, lifestyle and behaviour interact and contribute to the development of cancer and other chronic diseases. It is a living population laboratory containing a wealth of data from more than 300,000 Canadians — the largest data collection of its kind in Canadian history — aged 30-74 who are voluntarily sharing their health and biological information over several decades. This data is studied by researchers to better understand disease risk factors to help unlock the mysteries of cancer and other chronic diseases.

As the CanPath Administrative Assistant, you will support the operations and research initiatives that relate to the project. Using your strong organizational skills, you will support the development of funding application packages, liaise with internal and external project stakeholders, and provide administrative support to theprogram and to the CanPath Executive Director. Your proven attention to detail and strong communication skills will be critical to effectively support our project.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing detailed information on upcoming funding and report requirements and deadlines
  • Keeping well-informed on funding opportunities and resources, application policies/procedures and key deadlines
  • Liaising with agencies, collaborators, industry sponsors, faculty and other stakeholders regarding funding applications
  • Conducting literature reviews and writing research summaries for reporting purposes
  • Verifying research funding proposals are complete, accurate and adhere to sponsor guidelines
  • Coordinating meeting schedules, agendas, materials, action and follow-up items
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Determining logistical details and activities for events and/or programming

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum two (2) years administrative experience in a research setting
  • Demonstrated experience drafting summaries and written correspondence from scientific sources (i.e. research summaries, literature reviews)
  • Experience coordinating and administering grant application submissions
  • Experience coordinating meetings and events and taking meeting minutes
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook) and Adobe Suite Products (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign)
  • Proficiency using reference management programs (e.g. EndNote, RefWorks, ProCite)
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • Ability to exercise good judgement in dealing with project stakeholders
  • Ability to work well independently and collaboratively

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Interest in Canadian population health research
  • Experience working in a public health or global health research setting

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone: 

USW Pay Band 07 — $58,012 with an annual step progression to a maximum of $74,189. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
