This position is based in Tampere and will work with our Novel Vision Systems team, which is part of the Tampere Handset Camera Innovation Lab. Novel Vision Systems is a forward-looking team working to identify novel ways of capturing visual information, developing specific pre-processing algorithms for raw sensor data and building novel imaging and computer vision applications. We are constantly looking for new colleagues and at the moment we are trying to strengthen our competence in the field of AI.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Implement new algorithms to push the boundaries of the mobile imaging technologies
  • Develop prototype and demonstrate proof of novel imaging concepts using AI
  • Stay on top of the latest AI algorithms and imaging technologies by proactively exploring the latest and greatest ones in the field
  • Design and develop novel AI solutions to process various sensor data
  • Design and develop AI solutions for new computational photography applications
  • Develop AI solutions for real world imaging problems
  • Generate IP, including patents and publications in top journals and conferences
  • Identify potential collaborations with other research units inside and outside of Huawei
  • Coach and train junior level colleagues

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • PhD degree in computer vision, machine learning, signal/image processing, or other relevant fields
  • If you are a PhD student but would graduate within 6-12 months, you would be considered for an internship position first
  • Deep understanding of the theory behind the machine learning methods and imaging technologies
  • A proven track record in design and implementation of innovative solutions demonstrated by publications at leading journals and conferences such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, NeurIPS, SIGGRAPH, etc.
  • Strong mathematical skills
  • Strong competency in Python and deep learning libraries

Other Relevant Skills:

  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken
  • Good communication skills to brainstorm new ideas with the team and to report research findings and results clearly
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team

Type of Contract: This is a full-time consultant position at our R&D office in Tampere, Finland. The consultant shall be employed by Huawei’s supplier.
