Offer Description

Applications are now open for one research fellowship (BI) for the project “Sus2Trans – Sustainable Transformative Transitions — Conciliate Accelerated Low Carbon Transitions with System Transformations (PTDC/GES-AMB/0934/2020)”, exclusively financed by national funds through the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P., under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Energy; Sustainable Transitions

Admission requirements:Candidates must be enrolled in a Master in Economics, Public Policies, or equivalent.

Preference factors:

a) Adequacy of the Master’s thematic to the research to be conducted in the project;

b) Knowledge/experience in the field of socio-technical transitions, and/or in the field of innovation and public policy;

c) Experience in the use of quantitative research methods (e.g. statistics, econometrics, network analysis, data mining, etc); experience in the use of qualitative research methods for data collection and treatment.

d) Fluency in English.

Work plan:

Support to the research on transformative decarbonization strategies being conducted in the Sus2Trans project. This work includes:

1. Support to research on emerging transformative trends in business, induced by the sustainability transition process; support to research on policies that promote structural transformation.

2. Development and analysis of databases on business R&D projects and on decarbonization policies

3. Collaboration in the preparation of scientific publications.

4. Organization / participation in dissemination and discussion activities (internal and external) with different types of audiences.

Application deadline: Applications are open from the 4th  until the 18th of December 2023.

Work location and supervisor: The activities will be carried out at the Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia I.P. – Unidade de Energias Renováveis e Eficiência Energética in Lumiar Campus, under the scientific supervision of Doutora Margarida Fontes (PhD).

Research fellowship duration: The duration of the fellowship is up to 6 months, expected to start on 2nd of january 2024, until the project’s conclusion date (31 July 2024). The duration of the fellowship could eventually be extended in case the SUS2TRANS project’s conclusion date is the subject of an extension.

Benefits

Monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly allowance of the fellowship corresponds to 930,98€, according to the FCT Regulation for Research Fellowships in the Country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ). The payment is made monthly by bank transfer. The candidate to be hired may exercise his right to social insurance by joining the voluntary social insurance system. If the fellowship holder wishes to apply to voluntary social security, the contributions will be covered by the LNEG. All fellows will benefit from personal accident insurance supported by the LNEG.

Eligibility criteria

Eligible candidates: Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions provided in article 9 of the Research Fellowship Regulations of FCT I.P (2019).

Legislation and other applicable regulations: The fellowship is awarded under the Law nº 40/2004, of August 18th , Portuguese Statue of the Scientific Research Fellowship Holder Statute [Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação Científica”], in its current decree Law nº 123/2019, of August 28th, and FCT Regulation for Studentships and Fellowships (RBI) approved by the Regulation nº 950/2019, published in the Series II of the DR, of December 16th, 2019: https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/regulamento.phtml.pt .

Selection process

Form of submission of applications: all documents mentioned below must be sent in PDF format

b) A cover letter describing your background, experience, motivation;

c) Detailed curriculum vitae;

d) Documents proving the academic degree obtained and their classification; or in the alternative, may be replaced by a declaration under honour attesting that the required documents will be presented at the time of signing the contract;

e) Proof of enrolment in a Master’s or integrated master’s program, granting the academic degree necessary for the type of fellowship, or copy of proof of enrolment in eligible courses that do not lead to an academic degree, integrated in the educational project of a higher education institution, developed in association or cooperation with one or several R&D units or in the alternative, may be replaced by a declaration under the honour attesting that the required documents will be presented at the time of signing the contract.

Note:Foreign certificates may only be considered valid when submitted with their recognition record by a  Portuguese higher education institution, as established by the Decree-Law 66/2018 of August 16, and the Decree-Law 60/2018, of August 03, alternatively, presenting the document of recognition/equivalence of foreign qualifications to the corresponding Portuguese qualifications with the classifications officially converted to the Portuguese scale by DGES https://www.dges.gov.pt/pt/pagina/reconhecimento?plid=374 or by an institution of public higher education, even if the foreign scale is 1 to 20.

Evaluation and selection criteria: The evaluation of the applications will focus on the candidate’s Merit, applying the following criteria, in order of importance:

a) Personal curriculum (which reflects the scientific and professional path relevant to the scientific area);

b) Relevant experience acquired (including work published in the area);

c) Interview (only for candidates selected based on criteria a) and b).

The candidate´s classification will be obtained by applying the following formula:

Total: 0.50×A+0.40×B+0.10×C

                              which:

A is the classification between 0 e 5 obtained in point a.

B is the classification between 0 e 5 obtained in point b.

C is the classification between 0 e 5 obtained in point c.

The candidates will be selected for an interview when the sum of the criteria A+B will be equal to or greater than the 7 rating scale.

Additional comments

Form of advertising/notification of results: The final evaluation results will be communicated by email to the candidates attaching for this purpose, the minutes with the Jury deliberation. Candidates for a possible interview will be notified in writing through email. During the period of the competition, candidates must consult the email address indicated daily, in order to stay informed about its progress. The final results of the evaluation will also be posted on the premises of the LNEG, in Estrada da Portela – Zambujal – Alfragide.

If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the fellowship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days on the draft decision at the prior hearing of interested parties, according to articles 121º and 122º of the Code of the Administrative Procedure (DL nº 4/2015 of January 7). At the end of the period set for the hearing of interested parties and in the absence of any response, the ranking list will become final.
